Wk ending 15th November

In literacy, we have been learning the ‘d’ and ‘e’ sound.  We played with dinosaurs. drew doodles, played games with dice and made d’s with dough.  We posted letters in envelopes, explored the earth and had to dress up in costumes to attend emergencies.

In numeracy, we challenged ourselves to count to 200! We also learned about the numbers before/after and higher/lower.

We had a fantastic literacy open morning.

“The mums and dads were playing with us.  My favourite thing was playing with the playdough.” Coila

“My dad was reading a book to me when he was there and he made two words with me at the playdough.” Mirryn

“My mum played with me at the computers and also played with me at the playdough.” Claye

“My mum played with me at the laptops” Allie

“The first thing I showed my mum was the laptops then the playdough.  I liked when my mum came in.”  Miller

“I showed mum my drawing and I went to the laptops with my brother and my brother played on the laptops with me”  Brie

“My mum made me happy because she played with me at the playdough” Elliott

“Mrs Watt read me a book”  Riia

This week we have also been learning about how to save energy at school and at home. We made ‘switch me off’ signs to put in every room in the school to remind people to turn the lights off when they leave. Great job!

Primary 1 visited the school library for the first time. Thank you to our P7 helpers who’s showed us how the library system worked. Everyone has a book they should keep at home for the week as they will need it for their homework. Please return the books in the book bag provided next Friday. Enjoy reading these together.

We all looked great for our dress down day for Children In Need and we even had our very own Pudsey bear.

Literacy Homework Wk 1: Big Talk

Big Talk Homework

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.  The topic will change depending on the focus for that term.  This term our Health topic is Myself and My Family.  At home, your child should prepare and practice their talk.  They can bring in photos or posters to help them.

Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • A photo or drawing of themselves. Talk about them – What they like? Dislike? etc.
  • Photos or drawings of their family.  Who lives in their house? Any pets?

The talk should be ready to be presented the week bg Monday 25th  November. More details will be given shortly (please check back on the Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk.

We look forward to hearing them!

Here is an great example of what to include in the poster.  You’ll notice the small drawings beside each photo instead of writing.  This helps your child remember what to say without having to read words.

Wk ending 8th Nov

In numeracy, we have been learning about ‘1 more’ and ‘1 less’ with our numbers to 20.

In literacy, we have been learning the ‘r’ and ‘m’ sounds.  We have had great fun designing rockets, racing race cars, making masks, menus and money shops!

We learned all about Guy Fawkes this week and created fabulous firework artwork.  We also had great fun being fireworks when we danced to the song.

In PE we have started learning the skills needed to play hockey.  This week we learned to ‘push’ or ‘send’ the puck to our partner using our hands and the hockey sticks.

We have been using tally marks to gather and record information in our Information Handling topic in maths.

Wk ending 1st Nov

We have been consolidating our sounds (satpin) this week in literacy.  We are doing so well learning to use the sounds to make and write words!

In numeracy, we are continuing to focus on numbers 11-20.  We have been talking a lot this week about using numberlines to help us and even made a human numberline using our floor tiles.

Owl Babies

We have been learning about owl life cycles and having great fun playing in our own Animal Rescue Centre which we created.

Since we have been learning about Owls, we thought we would take a walk to visit our very own birds of Catrine, the ducks at the Voes.  We fed them with Mrs Watt’s porridge!

We have started talking about different emotions and our feelings.  We are learning to do some square breathing with the help of Finny the fish.  It’s very relaxing so I’ve included the link below if you would like to try it at home.

And let’s not forget we’ve had some Halloween fun…

We took our maths learning outside this week and used materials in the playground to sort using one criteria.  We also just had fun playing outside.

Primary 1 enjoyed their first ERIC time (Everyone Reading In Class)
