This week we learned the ‘c’ and ‘k’ sound. We made cards, practised our cutting, made playdoh cakes with candles and created castles!
We also had great fun building with the big Polydrons…
We had a lovely morning on Wednesday at the Literacy Open Morning. Thank you so much to all the families who were able to attend. The children loved showing off their learning and we hope you enjoy sharing the Book Bug Bags at home,
I’m so sorry but you may have spotted a mistake in my recent letter regarding the Big Talk homework. The talks will take place on week beginning 27th November, not May as stated on the letter. I know you’d like some preparation time but that might be a bit extreme! Apologies again!
Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’. This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class. The topic will change depending on the focus for that term. This term our Health topic is Myself and My Family. At home, your child should prepare and practice their talk. They can bring in photos or posters to help them.
Here is an example of a poster made last year. The child had drawn pictures instead of words to remind them what each family member liked. This meant they were able to confidently talk about their poster instead of relying on words that they can’t read yet.
Some ideas to include in their talk might be:
A photo or drawing of themselves. Talk about them – What they like? Dislike? etc.
Photos or drawings of their family. Who lives in their house? Any pets?
The talk should be ready to be presented the week beginning Monday 27th November. More details will be given shortly (please check back on the Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk.
This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We used different materials to paint poppies. Look out for our wonderful display next time you come into school!
We learned the ‘d’ and ‘e’ sound this week.
We played outside using the equipment and had great fun. We made obstacle courses and gaming stations!
It was so lovely to see everyone after the holidays and great to be having fun learning in Primary One again. What a busy week we have had!
We have been working on ordering and writing our numbers to 10. We are also consolidating our first six sounds ‘a,t,s,i,p,n’. We have been saying the sounds, writing them and building words!
This week we will send home these sounds on little flash cards. These should be used at home as often as possible. They can be removed from the treasury tag and children can say the sound and start building words with the cards. Please remember to put them back in bag everyday as new sounds will be added as they are covered in class.
We also made our own spooky Playdough to get us in the Halloween mood and had great fun with some Halloween themed activities 🎃
What a busy term we have had. The children have all settled so well into Primary One and have been working their socks off.
This week we have been focusing on counting and ordering numbers in Numeracy.
In Literacy our new sounds this week were ‘p’ and ‘n’ and we have learned the common words ‘an’, ‘in’ and ‘is’. Here are some songs to help you practise at home.

In PE this week we had great fun playing different games such as the Traffic Light Game and Dance Tig.
This was our student teacher, Miss Carr’s last week in school and we wish her the best of luck for the future and thank her for all her hard work.

This week in Primary One we have been very busy bees. In maths we have been focusing on writing the numbers 8 and 9 as well as working on counting and ordering numbers to ten.

In PE this week we played games with the parachute.
We also listened to different pieces of music and used our bodies to show how they made us feel. This is how we looked during a sad piece of music.
We have had another busy week in Primary One. In numeracy we have been learning to write 6 and 7.
In literacy we started learning our first two sounds; ‘a’ and ‘t’. We have been learning to form the letters correctly and identify the sounds in words.
In our People Who Help Us topic we have been learning all about nurses and how they help us.
