Transport- Why should we change the way we travel?

06.10.25

Today we looked at aeroplanes and the pollution they can cause. We talked about how we could make air travel more sustainable and then we had a go at making our own paper helicopters to test fly. Everyone’s helicopters were different sizes and we predicted which ones would be the best fliers. Here we are, setting them off:

We had the chance to work alongside P3E to create posters promoting pollution free travel. We investigated Amsterdam and their use of bikes to travel around the city and our task was to create a poster advertising cycling in Amsterdam. We split into teams and worked in Miss Birrell’s classroom and Mr Burns’ classroom. Here are some pictures of us in action and our finished posters will be uploaded soon.

Today in topic we were looking at the first method of transport – walking!  We watched some videos about evolution and how our feet have changed through time. We noticed that feet used to look like hands but have adapted to allow us to walk long distances, supporting our body weight with balance.
We then drew around our own feet onto squared paper. This meant we could estimate the area of our feet in cm2. After we had done this we decorated our feet so that we can put our ‘foot area’ work up on display.

We started our new topic by looking at the history of transport. We watched some videos and worked in groups trying to sort the modes of transport from the oldest to the newest.
