Welcome back!  The children were excited to be back and had many stories to tell from their Easter holiday!

This week is a consolidation week for literacy so there will be no new sound.  New reading books have been allocated to those who have returned their folders.  Assessment of sounds and common words will be done this week and I will let you know how the children get on with this.  Thank you.

14.3.22

This week is a consolidation week for literacy so there will be no new sound.  Reading books have been allocated to those children who have returned their folders.  New games have been allocated on Education City too.  This week is Snapshot Jotter week – the children will bring home their jotters home for you to see on Friday.  Could the children please bring back the jotters on Monday.  Thank you!

7.3.22

This week our sound is ‘th’ and our common words are, this, that and then.  If the children have returned their homework folders reading books have gone home too.  New games have been allocated for Education City.

Here is a game to help practise spelling words with the ‘th’ sound.  Select ‘th’ from the main menu.  You could also have a go at words with the ‘sh’ sound too.

This week our sound is ‘sh’ and our common words are, she, come and from.  Reading books are in their folders too.  New games have been allocated for Education City.  Please have a go if you have time.  Thank you to those who have been on and had a go already!

Reading books have been allocated this week.  Please could the children return their folder in order for their new book to be sent home.  Thank you.  I have allocated specific homework for Education City.  Please log in and click on ‘Homework’ where you will find some games to complete. Login details are stuck on the inside of the homework folders but please let me know if you don’t have them.  I will set new tasks each week.  No new sound this week as it is a consolidation week.

This week our sounds are y and z and our common words are, have, your and by.

Most children were given a folder with the sounds and common words they need to practise inside.  If your child didn’t get one today they will get one home tomorrow.  All children should have a reading book home this week.  Thank you again for your continued support with the homework.

This week is a consolidation week for our sounds.  I will be carrying out an assessment of the sounds and common words taught so far.  I will let you know how the children get on with this and which ones might need a little more practise.

Reading books will be sent home as normal.  if your child didn’t get a book today they will get it tomorrow.

This week are sounds are, j and v and our common words are, have, just and to. The children have been issued a copy of their Scottish poem for our school poetry competition. The children can learn to recite this at home  if they would like to take part. Our poem is ‘Nessie’ by JK Annand.  We will also be practising in class. Thanks again for your continued support.

Happy New Year and welcome to our first full week back!  Homework has been issued this week.  Our sounds are, ‘h’ and ‘w’ and our common words are, was, went and his.  As a school we are all taking part in a Scottish themed topic.  Primary 1 are completing some activities based on the book called, Harris the Hero, all about a Scottish puffin!  We have sent home a research task to be completed by the 21st January.  This is inside the homework folder.  Thank you.

Week beginning 6.12.21

This week our sounds are ‘b’ and ‘u’ and our common words are, be, but and you.

There were some busy elves in Santa’s Workshop this afternoon and we also had fun making our Christmas cards which we will finish tomorrow.   Eddie our classroom elf was found relaxing  in his hammock made with one of my masks!

This week our sounds are ‘f’ and ‘o’ and our common words are, if, for and ‘on.’

Week beginning 22.11.21

This week our sounds are ‘g’ and ‘l’ and our common words are, go, got and get.  The children have brought home copies of the songs they are learning for their Christmas Service, if you had any spare time to practise these that would be greatly appreciated.  Please could the children bring their homework back on a Friday in their blue folder to protect their reading book.  Thank you.

Week beginning 15.11.21

This week is a consolidation week for our sounds and common words.  The children have their sound jotters home this week to keep practising their sounds and words.  Some children also have a reading book this week to read at home.

Education city passwords have been glued to the inside of the opening to the homework folder.  Please feel free to go on and have a look at the games on offer.  Actual homework tasks will be allocated soon.

There is also a letter about a task the children will be doing as part of Scottish Book Week.  The children are to choose a character they would like to invite for Christmas dinner.  If possible could the children please bring in a book which has their favourite character in it.  Thank you!

Week beginning 8.11.21

This week our sounds are c, k and ck and our common words are can, we and into.  Education City passwords will be coming home soon which will allow children to access a variety of literacy and numeracy games.

Week beginning 25.10.21

This week our sounds are ‘r’ and ‘m’ and are common words are am, me and my.  We will be making Hallowe’en masks for the letter m!  We read the story of The Bumpy Pumpkin on Monday.  Look out for our own bumpy pumpkins coming home on Friday!

 

Week beginning 4.10.21

This week our sounds are ‘p’ and ‘n.’  On Monday we made parrot puppets and made a letter p with pasta!  In our jotters you will see our three common words for this week which are an, is and and.  The children have also brought a number workbook home which they have been using in class.  Please feel free to complete the pages that have not been done.

Week beginning 28.9.21

This week our sounds are  ‘s’ and ‘i.’  We learnt ‘s’ today and will look at ‘i ‘ on Wednesday.  We had fun making spotty snakes!  What can you find around the house with the s sound?  In our jotters you will see our three common words for this week which are I, in and it.

Week beginning 21.9.21

The children will bring home a folder today containing a sound jotter.  Please read the letter on the inside of this jotter for more information.  This weeks sounds are ‘a’ and ‘t’ and our common words are a, at and the.  There is also a subitising game and flashcards with all the common words we will teach this year.  There is also a username and password for the Sumdog website to practise numeracy skills.  There is a link for this website on the useful links tab at the top of the main page.  Please do not answer the diagnostic questions for your child as this sets the game at a level for them and changes as they progress.  Homework will be issued on a Monday to be returned on a Friday.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
