Update …

From August 2023 our whole school is aiming towards gaining the John Muir Family Learning accreditation so all of our outdoor learning posts and photos will now be under the John Muir Award tab.

Please take a look to see what we’ve been up to!!

Digital Learning in the Community

On Wednesday Avalon went a lovely walk down to the river to make some videos to showcase Catrine.  We had a great time skimming stones and using an app to identify the different types of rocks we found.  On the way down we also tested out the water resistance of dandelion clocks.

Catrine Clean Up

Today Ayrbank joined members of the Catrine Community Action Plan Group to clean up Catrine. The pupils spent the morning making posters to encourage people to put their litter in the bin and then headed out after break time armed with their litter pickers. We were joined by Tam McKinnon and some volunteers who came along to give us a hand.

Thank you to Tam for providing all of the equipment for our litter pick, we managed to collect lots of rubbish and make Catrine a bit cleaner.

Well done everyone!

Ayrbank Outdoor Day

For Outdoor Learning day Ayrbank explored different areas of the village, filming for the next part of our video tour. We walked down by the institute, had snack in the square, trekked up to the Monument, went through the woods and finished with a little play in the park.

Den Building #3

Whiteflat had a great day enjoying some team building games and working as part of a group to plan, design, and build a den.

We started off with some team games and challenges to get warmed up.  We worked extremely well together to make different shapes and animals using our bodies.

After spending some time designing our den, writing the materials needed and making up rules, we then got building!

We worked really well in our groups and came up with some great, imaginative ideas for our dens!

Litter Picking – Marneil

Today it was Marneil’s turn to carry out some litter picking around our local community.

We made some posters this morning to try and encourage people to put their rubbish in the bin and to take care of the environment.

After break time we went for a walk around the village and worked as a team to pick up any litter that we could see. We were really happy to find that there wasn’t too much rubbish today.

Ashton put up the poster that he made at the Games Hall. We hope that it will encourage people to put their litter in the bin, rather than dropping it on the ground.

Well done Marneil, you did a great job today!

Den building

Please enjoy some photos from our Outdoor Learning Morning.  Avalon worked in small groups to plan, design and present their dens to their group.

They then  headed outside and worked as part of a team to create their dens using different materials and loose parts in the playground.
