Happy New Year
Welcome back and a happy new year!
Mrs Bell and I, would like to thank all of Primary 4 and their parents & carers for our generous Christmas gifts. We hope everyone had a lovely break.
The children have been hard at work this week and have settled back into routines (there may have been some tired faces come Friday!).
Our Scots poem is “A Dug, A Dug” by Bill Keys and pupils have taken these home today to start learning.
Have a lovely weekend!

P5/6 Blowing Bubbles
This morning we had a go at blowing bubbles within bubbles! We snipped pipettes and used these as our bubble blowers. We then dipped these in the solution to blow bubbles within bubbles. We tried to beat the P6/7 score of 3. After a few attempts one of us managed to get 4. It was such tricky task trying to carefully add a second bubble without popping the first! We all had a great time – have a look!
A Bubble inside a Bubble inside a Bubble
P6/7 were
having fun with science creating a Bubble within a Bubble within a Bubble ……
Our record was 3!
P6/7 tips for blowing bubbles -blow gently, don’t make bubbles too big, when you are on your second bubble, push the pipette in from the top, not the side.
Many thanks to Lynn Morrison for the experiment instructions and resources.

P1/2 Pupils – Scottish Poem/Song
Primary 1/2 are learning a Scottish poem and song to perform ( in school ) on Burns Day. The words/lyrics have been added to their reading folders yesterday. Please practice these with your child over the next couple of weeks.
Please note that we will not be singing all of the verses to the song, but all have been included on the lyric sheet for now until we decide which ones the pupils will perform.
The poem is, ‘Swallie’ by J. K. Annand.
The song is, ‘The Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede’ by Matt McGinn.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
We look forward to seeing the children on Monday 9 January 2023.
World of Work – Medical Imaging
Many thanks to Fiona Scott who spoke recently to the P 5/6 and P6/7 pupils about medical imaging. The children enjoyed learning about the different types of medical imaging there is. Highlights included guessing the body part from the images and trying on protective clothing.
Our World of Work programme will continue in the new year.
Ochiltree Festive Fun
A magical day at Ochiltree Primay School ……………..
Information for P7 Pupils Transition to Robert Burns Academy
P6/7
Since September P6/7 have been reading “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling and have studied the text in depth. From each chapter different activities were covered by the children – lots of literacy and origins of language, letter writing, poetry, character studies; science experiments – colour changing flowers, growing cress and predicting results (all children shocked by how wrong they were!); art and crafts – sketching characters, drawing three different eyes, sewing a “sorting hat” from a pattern and many more activities.
To complete the study we intend to watch the film next week and compare it to the original novel. The film is rated PG. Please complete the attached form by Friday 16 December.
Thank you.
P5/6 Learn About Online Safety
This week we discussed how to keep ourselves safe online. We looked at different scenarios and did a carousel activity sharing how we would respond to each of the scenarios safely. We also had lots of fun creating ‘perfect passwords’ and discussed how to keep our accounts safe. We also had a look at trolling and used the toothpaste experiment to illustrate this. The toothpaste represents the words we choose to say to people. We then tried to take all of our words back by scraping every single bit of toothpaste back into the tube. After LOTS of mess we discovered that we could not put all of the toothpaste back. This made us realise the weight of our words and even if we take them back they can still have a lasting effect on someone. Have a look!
Primary 1/2 update
Primary 1/2 have been learning to tell the time.

Primary 1/2 – Fatballs
“Christingles” by P6/7
Sharing the Learning with P4 & P1/2
Thursday 8th December
Primary 4 took the opportunity to teach Primary 1/2 all about James and the Giant Peach. They chose their favourite activities from their recent topic, and in groups, delivered these as ‘mini lessons’ for the younger pupils.
We learned how to mix the perfect peach colour, create a rainbow, demonstrate how rain is made and took part in the ‘Stop that peach!’ challenge.
We ended the day watching the movie. A great time was had by all! Click on the SWAY below to see more.
