Sports Day Infomation
We are looking forward to the Sports Day on 8th June ( weather permitting). After a lovely few days, the weather forecast for Wednesday is not so good.
Should it rain on Tuesday night or on Wednesday morning the grass may be too wet to hold the event and it will be carried over to the 15th June. Please look out for an update on Wednesday morning by 9.30 a.m. on the app.
The children will also be doing a selection of novelty races and we would be grateful if the following pupils could bring the items into school in a clearly labelled bag if possible.
P5 –hat, gloves and a scarf
P6 – pyjamas
If your child does not have these items please do not worry – they will still be able to take part in the events.
Parents wishing to spectate should line up at the front gate of the school no earlier than 10 minutes before the event starts. Please see the previous message on the app for times.
We hope this information is helpful.
Parent Council – Information
The next Parent Council meeting will be held online on Wednesday 8th June at 7pm. If you would like to join the Parent Council and attend the meeting please email the secretary by Tuesday 7th June at ochiltreeparentcouncil20@gmail.com so the meeting link and agenda etc can be sent out on time.

Dear parent / carer
I am pleased to share with you the link to our P7 Information Video. As we are currently unable to welcome large groups of parents to the school for a face-to-face information evening, we decided to record a video that you can view with your child instead. This video should answer many of the questions you may have about the final stages of our transition programme.
The video can be viewed by clicking the link below:
Or through our school blog’s P7 Transition section:
https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/therobertburnsacademy/p7-transition/
We would also like to invite you to an online drop-in session on Wednesday 25th May from 6.30-7.30pm. There will be no presentation or content shared during this session, this is an opportunity for parents and carers to ask any questions they may have. I would encourage you to watch the information video and look at the content on the P7 Transition page of our school blog in the first instance.
You can join us for the online session via the following link:

SECOND LEVEL RELATIONSHIPS, SEXUAL HEALTH and PARENTHOOD
There have been many positive changes in Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) practice in recent years. Evaluations have shown that there is much about RSHP that children and young people like and enjoy in relation to their learning within RSHP at school.
However, learners also identified shortfalls in key areas such as the breadth of topics, relevance to the pressures they face in current-day relationships and a sense that RSHP is often not a ‘real’ subject, that it is occasionally tagged on, or given low priority.
This meant there was a need to reflect on how learners needs are met in an everchanging context, whether this is in terms of concerns we may have for children and young people, negative experiences of social media or partner violence – or positive cultural shifts, including increased awareness of the rights of learners with disabilities or LGBT young people.
Please click on the PDF below to view the information leaflet that your child came home with today.

Platinum Jubilee Celebration
Please come along to share our Platinum Jubilee Celebration with us on Wednesday 1 June 11 a.m. – 12 noon. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on the grass in our field and a picnic to enjoy. Our children will entertain you with a medley of songs from the different decades from the Queen’s 70 year reign. Please feel free to join in with the singing! Each child will receive a special Jubilee biscuit and a drink in their own commemorative water bottle. We hope for a dry day but please wear your waterproofs should it be otherwise!
The children will be seated in the playground and parents will be on our grass areas. Access for parents will be via the car park on a designated walking route.
You have a chance to win a Jubilee Afternoon Hamper. Tickets will be available to buy on the day at the main entrance.
We look forward to seeing you.

Scottish Government Free Bus Travel Scheme
Free bus travel is available to all pupils aged 5 and over from 31 January 2022 and can be accessed via the National Entitlement Card. We have been working with Customer Services as parents have a choice of applying for a new card via the school system or they can go directly to https://getyournec.scot/nec/. If they go through the NEC website, parents will require to validate both their identity and that of their child.
The other option is for them to apply for a National Entitlement Card / Kidz Kard via the school. This option assumes that both the parent’s and child’s identity has been validated and simplifies the process the parents. Please go to:
NEC Application Form 1 for pupils aged 5 to 10 years old
NEC Application Form 2 for pupils aged 11 to 15 years old
Due to the current COVID mitigations we will only accept application forms from pupils who require to undertake essential travel at this time, but we will leave the forms open on school website/app to allow parents to apply at a time that is suitable for them. All forms will be processed when the mitigations are eased and we are able to travel freely.

Free school meals now on the menu for all P5 pupils
Free school meals are now on the menu for all P5 pupils throughout East Ayrshire, thanks to the Scottish Government’s universal free school meals initiative.
Like all children from P1 to P4, P5s will also now be offered a delicious and nutritious two-course meal. The menus, which run on a three weekly cycle, include organic, local and seasonal produce and there are meat-free days each week.
Menu choices
Each year, our Catering Services consult with parents, children and young people and holds menu development sessions – this makes sure that the menus are tailored to the needs and requirements of our children and young people.
All main meals are served with two fresh seasonal vegetables and a piece of fruit and children can choose meals like Cajun chicken pasta, premium pork sausages with creamy mashed potato, ¼ pounder veg burger with potato wedges or macaroni. And there is always homemade soup on offer.
Food Intolerance
If your child has food intolerances, your school’s Catering Manager will be happy to speak to you about all the choices that are available.
What about P6 and 7?
We’ll have more news about Free School Meals for P6 and P7 pupils later in the year.
