P6 were interested in elephant’s toothpaste and how to make it. So… we made some! We used this opportunity to consolidate our learning on chemical reactions from earlier in the year.

Primary 6 have been putting their problem solving and team working skills to the test in some STEM challenges.
P6 have been exploring collage using Pablo Picasso as their inspiration to create portraits They added texture to the collages by ripping the surface of their cardboard backing and used different types and colours of paper to create a face from two different perspectives. Finally they added colour and detail using oil pastels. They look fab!
P6 enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee last week. Each class was given a decade of the Queen’s reign to investigate and ours was the noughties (2000-2009).
We explored genres of music from that decade as well as news stories. We found out that a plane had to carry out an emergency landing on the Hudson River in New York and that the Human Genome was sequenced amongst other stories.
As the Human Genome project was completed in 2003 we also had fun making models of the DNA double helix and extracting DNA from strawberries.
We also drew some of the Queen’s corgis before having fun outside at our Jubilee picnic.
P6 were out in force again this week using the placards and slogans they have made to try and discourage people form parking near our school at pick up time and to encourage people to park responsibly.
Be Cool Park Away from our School!
P6 have been learning data handling in numeracy this week. They used the data we collected from Walk to School week to draw bar graphs of how people in different classes travelled to school. They also interpreted the data to find out which class had the most people walking to school during the week.
In art this term p6 will be learning about and creating different types of collage. This week we were inspired by the forthcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations and used collage to create some colourful postage stamps.
Michael McRobert came into the school this Thursday to deliver Taekwondo taster sessions. P6 really enjoyed their session. Here are some pictures…
P6 have been working hard on algebra this week. They have explored function machines, created and solved equations, they even made their own loop card game to play.
This week P6 have been involved in number of activities for Mental Health Awareness Week.
On Wednesday we took part in a dance session with Miss Thorpe then chilled out with some mindfulness colouring and today we finished off our week with some yoga.
