What we’re doing to ensure that our community is adaptable to a changing climate.
Meet our Clean Green Natural Environment Team:
P7 captain Adele is leading the Natural Environment initiative.
Here is our Natural Environment action plan for this session:
Our 2024/25 progress:
Outdoor Learning
Some of our classes have taken this on board this session, using local green spaces such as The Lagoons. As a school, we have utilised areas such as the Glens Park and Greenhead Park. We know this is an area we must improve on further and will make this a priority for next session.

Mucky Pup, Clean It Up!
Our poo bag caddies remain around the village with further signage being shared to encourage dog owners to pick up their mess.

NC Path Warriors
We have continued this partnership with EA Leisure and have addressed the paths in close proximity to the school. Next session, we would like to take this further afield.

NC Gardening GroupĀ
Our planters are built and our order of gardening equipment using our Tesco Stronger Starts grant has been submitted. We received a delivery of free compost from the EA Waste team which are extremely grateful for. Now that our planters are filled, we will be able to begin our planting and growing journey. We can’t wait! Each class will be assigned a planter for the new school session.
Tidy Fridays
Tidy Friday has been consistent across the session, with each class taking responsibility. However, we have continued to be disappointed by the amount of litter found in the playground on the days leading up to this tidy up. Our Natural Environment team have opted for a record sheet, where we note down individuals witnessed intentionally dropping litter and they are addressed by SLT and reminded of the implications of doing so and shown the Litter presentation again where appropriate. We have found this to be more effective, as more than our Clean Green Team are now keeping an eye in the playground and the amount of litter found had noticeably reduced.
Next steps:
Community Litter Picks to be carried out monthly, encouraging community members to participate. Soup parcels with NCDT using produce grown in school, once planters are filled. To care for and develop our school garden, ensuring it is weeded regularly, bug hotels, bird feeders and hedgehogs houses are included. To order new bins for the playground. To book the ‘Harriet the hedgehog’ programme to be delivered in both P1 classes at the start of next session.
