Community Garden
P4 and P 2/3 have been down to the community garden to get started with our planting.
We planted beans, cucumber, lettuce, potatoes and some sunflower seeds.
Our strawberry plants from last year are looking good with lots of flowers. Fingers crossed for lots of fruit!
Some children made their own watering bottles by recycling a bottle and making holes in the lid.
We decorated the sides of the beds using chalk to draw flowers, fruit and insects.
Another busy term has begun…
We are learning all about Energy Around Us and have been looking at NON-RENEWABLE and RENEWABLE energy sources.
Do you know the difference?

Butter Making
When P4 visited Burns’ Cottage, we had a challenge to make butter using a whisk or a brush to beat the cream to turn it into butter.
Back in class, we wanted to make butter again.
This time we used…
an empty milk carton, a pot of double cream and a pinch of salt…nothing else.
We poured the cream into the bottle and got shaking…
(We even had a wee bit of Swifty’s ‘Shake it Off’ to help us along!)
Eventually the cream separated into solids(butter) and liquids(buttermilk).
We added some salt and gave it another good shake.
Then we poured off the buttermilk and cut open the cartons to get to the butter.
It tasted just like REAL butter!
P.S. We didn’t let the buttermilk go to waste…Mrs Burt took it to make buttermilk scones and pancakes YUM!
