ECC Learning Week Commencing 6.10.25-10.10.25

I n d o o r s –

This week in the ECC the children have been using ICT to explore the structural components acquired to build a house or a building. The children have been drawing their own building, incorporating different shapes and sizes. These are displayed on our ECC learning wall.
The children were also discussing the workers that may be involved to build a house and looking at different shaped roofs on houses. Many children were able to construct their own design of a house with detail.

The children were exploring the season of autumn, they created their own autumn tea using loose parts and natural materials.
Some children also explored printing using fir cones and a variety of autumn colours 🍂 .
Some children were using technology to investigate why the leaves turn brown and red in autumn.

ECC Learning Week Commencing 29.9.25-3.10.25

I n d o o r s-

This week in the ECC the children have been exploring the role of an architect in more detail, exploring floorplans, the roles of an architect and a builder. The children explored a variety of different buildings and the concepts of a building. This has expanded out to building famous landmarks in Scotland.

The children seemed to enjoy using google earth to search for their own house, using their sense of direction, street views of Mauchline and comparing their houses with their peers. The children were also interested in their door numbers and street names.

This week in the creative the children were exploring different textures and resources to design their own houses.

O u t d o o r s –

This week outdoors the children continued to explore numbers outdoors where they were challenged in different activities and further developed their knowledge of numbers.

The children were exploring their physical skills in terms of risky play, they built their own obstacle course which explored balancing, turn taking, team work, perseverance, resilience and risk.

This was then extended using tyres where the children started then began designing and constructing their own tower, rockets and dens. This has been extended through staff support with measuring how tall each tower was.

Children also had the opportunity to explore pouring and filling, different textures and sharing/turn taking and waiting their turn.

We had a donation of horse shoes where the children began decorating them in order to create a fairy garden outdoors.

ECC Learning Week Commencing 23.9.25-26.9.25

I n d o o r s –

This week in the ECC the children have been interested in building and creating their own houses. They have been looking at the architecture of a house, the different materials used to build a house and different house types. The children have had the opportunity to use a variety of materials to construct their own designs, using descriptive language throughout.

O u t d o o r s –

This week the children have been exploring in the mud kitchen using loose parts, making their own recipes and focusing on how items may change consistencies and some children even used herbs from the outdoor garden.
The children have also been exploring forces in the water and using the large pipes and measuring equipment.
Some children have shown an interest in numbers outdoors, participating in number hunts with their peers and completing number challenges.

We also visited the community garden to see the progress of our pumpkins.

Learning Week Commencing 8.9.25-12.9.25

I n d o o r s –

This week the children have been further exploring the characteristics of a castle, exploring the structure of a castle and the materials used to build a castle. The children have also been exploring block play further, introducing large blocks which provided depth to their learning in terms of constructing their own designs and utilising their imagination and problem solving skills. The children also used ICT to research castles for inspiration. Some children explored the fantasy aspects of castles, exploring potion making in the water tray and adding their own materials and herbs from the outdoor garden.

The children made their own stained glass windows where they looked at shape, colour and design. These are how displayed in the ECC. Some children also made their own shields, marking making with control to design their shields.

The children have continued to explore pirates outdoors, building their own pirate ships and ‘walking the plank’. We have started to introduce the concept of treasure and what this might mean to others. Next week we will explore this further to provide depth in children’s learning.

ECC Learning Week Commencing 1.9.25-5.9.25

I n d o o r s –

This week in the ECC the children have been further exploring dragons, investigating dragon sounds, what dragons look like and we have began creating our own 3D dragon. The children have also been using loose part materials to problem solve whilst creating their own designs.

A focus has been made on routines, sharing, turn taking and boundaries in the ECC.

This week the children have been role playing outdoors, using their imagination whilst exploring with the small world pirate ship and small figures. The children have also continued to construct their own pirate ships using large building materials and transporting materials in the outdoor area in order to utilise to support with constructing their designs.

This week the children also created their own pirate flags outdoors and used the ipad to research the meaning of the skull and cross bone on a flag which means they are ready to fight. The children have been very keen to fact find about pirates to extend their knowledge.

Learning week beginning 25.8.25-29.8.25

This week following from the children’s interests, we have been exploring castles, using the internet to research and fact find about castles 🏰. The children have also been using their imagination whilst exploring in the small world castle and also exploring their interest of princesses, knights and dragons.

This week outdoors the children have been exploring their interest of pirates, working as a team constructing their own pirate ships and  using their imagination to role play being pirates.
The children have also been exploring in the water, exploring colour mixing, discussing forces and floating/sinking.

Parent meetings have been scheduled times to sign up are in the ECC main entrance where you sign your child into the ECC.

There will be a board within the ECC main entrance that will display what the lunch choice is each day. Also everyday in the ECC playroom there will be a display where you will be able to see what your child has ate for lunch each day.

Newsletter-

Every month/second month there will be an ECC newsletter detailing all the important information and dates/up coming events in the ECC to keep you all up to date.

Keep your eyes peeled for information with regards to personal plan meetings. On Monday 25th August there will be an important letter being sent out to all children if you can please be aware of this.

Sharing children’s learning-

Every week children’s learning will be shared via online learning journals and on the blog, if you can keep your eyes peeled to see the fun learning opportunities your children have at Mauchline ECC.

ECC Learning Week Commencing 10.6.24-14.6.24

This week in the indoor environment we have continued to explore our topic of internet, space 🚀, focusing on the solar system. We have been using technology, the internet as a research engine to fact find about space and the solar system. As part of a large group, we watched a video about the solar system and different facts about the planets that make up the solar system. The children know that planet earth is where we live 🌎. We discovered that the solar system is made up of 8 planets. These are the different types of planets that make up the solar system: 1.Mercury 2.Venus 3.Earth 4.Mars 5.Jupiter 6.Saturn 7.Uranus 8.Neptune 🪐🌞✨


“Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun” Jax.

“Jupiter is the largest planet” Akira.

“Saturn is the one with the rings” Daisy.

“The rings are made of ice” Evie.

“Mercury is hot and yellow” Jaxon.

This week in the ECC we have also been exploring story books about starting school as part of our transition to primary one. We explored the story of ‘Ziggy and Maggie starts school’. We had a discussion about starting primary one, what we think we will need for primary one and also how to travel safely to school.

This week outdoors we have been focusing on mark making and writing and exploring different purposes of writing. Some children were able to form some recognisable letters in their name and identify the initial sound in their first name.

The children have been using their creativity and imagination to role play outdoors, creating their own fire pit and camping experience 🏕️ 🔥.

As part of our ‘Woodland Wednesday’ experience, some children participated in a fire pit experience with their parents/carers, risk assessing the dangers throughout. The children got to toast a marshmallow on the fire pit.

ECC Learning Week Commencing 7.5.24-10.5.24

This week in the ECC the children have been finding out facts and information about ladybird and life cycles. The children have also continued to focus on their interest of direction and positional language whilst exploring using transport 🚗 🚙 🚃

In the creative area the children have been exploring the life cycle of plants and butterflies. Some children created their own symmetrical butterfly paintings 🦋

Outdoors the children have been exploring building and constructing their own houses using a variety of materials. The children also have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes whilst creating their own houses. Some children were able to identify their address and were able to use Google maps to explore street views in Mauchline 🗺 🌍

We have also continued to explore the life cycle of plant and the children planted their own sunflowers 🌻 , pumpkins in the community garden 🎃 and strawberries and tomatoes in our ECC. We are looking to continue to plant vegetables and wildflowers in our ECC outdoor area if anyone would wish to donate seeds or compost it would be very much appreciated.

Due to the lovely weather we all enjoyed a picnic in the garden today  🍎 🍌 ☀️

ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴡᴏʀᴋ ᴡᴇᴇᴋ 💜

Rebecca from the Crosshouse Ted-ucation 🐻 team visited the centre to discuss Crosshouse Children’s Fund and what to expect if we ever need to visit a children’s hospital. Crosshouse Children’s Fund is a charity in place to help support babies, children and young people in hospital in Ayrshire and Arran. Rebecca brought various medical equipment and discussed the purpose and benefit of its use. We also watched a slideshow and video telling us more about what the charity does to help others 👣💜👶🏼👦🏽

We also had a visit from local firefighters to explain the work they do in our community and how to keep us safe. They spoke of the risks and dangers of fire and their roles and responsibilities outwith fighting fires. We were able to try on some firefighter equipment and ask lots of questions 🔥 👨‍🚒

ECC Learning Week Commencing 11.3.24-15.3.24

This week in the ECC we have continued with our interest of jungle animals and we have been using the interest research engine to research different facts about jungle animals 🦁 🦓 🐅 🐘 

Through exploring small world jungle animals it sparked wonder and questioning…

“Can pandas climb”

“Why do zebras have stripes”

“How tall does a giraffes neck have to be to reach the trees”

We then used the internet to research our wonders and discovered our findings.

We continued to explore the story of Handas Surprise and some children were able to retell the story and create their own handa story 📕 📚.

For STEM week this week, we set STEM challenges in relation to exploring the jungle and constructing our own designs. Most children were able to complete the STEM challenge.

As part of STEM week this week the children have been using their problem solving skills to see who could create the largest fruit tower, setting challenges and achievements for themselves 🍎 🍌

Big well done to everyone who took part in our STEM Home Link challenge to create your own boat. A lot of hard work, problem solving and engineering skills went into create these boats, well done to everyone such great effort 🛥 🚤 

Outdoors this week the children have tried and tested their boats to see if they could float or sink.
