Bug-club will have set time in class to complete.

P.E.

Our P.E. days are Tuesdays (period 4) and Fridays (period 6). Please ensure that your child has a change of suitable clothing (shorts, polo-shirt/t-shirt and trainers) and jewellery is removed. Learners will be dismissed at PE doors on a Friday afternoon. We are encouraging everyone in Primary 7 this year to change into PE clothing. This is in preparation for secondary PE routines as this is essential.

I look forward to our year ahead together, please if there is anything you wish to discuss or any issues with log in details please do not hesitate to email me at earebecca.mathers@glow.sch.uk.

Term 1 Harmony Topic – WW2

Our enquiry question is ‘What can we learn from life on the home front?’

Team 7B are loving the topic so far.  We have learned about the outbreak of WW2, who was involved, the home guard and ARP wardens. We watched a theatre production of “What War Was Like” this brought our learning to life. We are looking forward to the end of October when we have a special WW2 day with a visiting museum in school!

We planned, designed and modelled our own air raid shelters. Here are some photos of the team’s fantastic work.

After exploring the outbreak of WW2 and what countries were involved, we focused on how life changed. The Battle of Britain was a focus for us and we created artwork inspired by the RAF Spitfire and Hurricanes warplanes.
Next, we turned our attention to what followed after the Battle of Britain…the Blitz period including the Clydebank Blitz.
We used these famous London silhouettes to represent what may have been seen in the sky during the Blitz period. We created the air raid sirens and light beams with white and yellow chalk then created munition and fire explosions with grey, red and orange chalk pastel.
History Alive in Schools Visit – 31/10/25
The class loved our visitor Kathryn (History Alive in Schools) on 31/10/25 with the WW2 mobile museum and workshop which brought our learning to life. Kathryn was fantastic and everyone tuned in and asked their curious questions.
Here are some photos 🙂
Term 1 – Harmony Topic – Antarctica
We have moved onto our next topic and our enquiry question is ‘How are connected to Antarctica?’

First we explored the geography of Antarctica and learned about our planet’s continents too.  Next, we explored the frozen landscape including looking at ice bergs, glaciers and melting ice shelves.  We investigated how global warming is affecting the landscape, rising sea levels and the impact on Antarctic wildlife.

In science we completed an experiment to show the freezing temperatures and how seals’ flubber protects the seals. The bubble wrap within the freezer bags acted as this layer and we experimented with other materials like Vaseline and tin foil to examine insulation.

As you can tell by our faces… it was very cold!

We completed information reports on our favourite Antarctic wildlife and focused our attention to the many species of penguins who inhabit the land.

For art & design, we created something a little different.  We designed, moulded, sculpted and painted these clay penguins. Some of us choose to embrace a little winter theme!  Learners will be taking these home at the end of term but here are some finished photos!

****Well done Team 7B ****

November & December

One word … busy!

The class worked exceptionally hard on their Christmas wreaths for the Christmas Fayre making a total of 35 wreaths and selling 30! This allowed us to raise a great profit for school funds.

Well done team 7B, our stall helpers and for the amazing turn out from home.

We finished our Lochnorris Studios Podcast in partnership with John from Ayrshire College. It is now fully on Spotify and everyone pushed themselves out their comfort zones and surprised themselves a little!  At the end we had a celebration session and learners were presented with their completion certificates and qualification.

Christmas Parties & End of Term Fun

We enjoyed our Christmas party and danced our Canadian Barn Dane and Dashing White Sergeants excellently!

Finally, we finished off our term with spreading some festive cheer by collaborating with P7A to create playground games.

Then enjoyed a p7 outdoor treat of festive hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows on the fire pit!

January 2026

Happy New Year, I hope everyone had a lovely festive break. Whilst, this week has not been the start of term 2 that we hoped, I am looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

Here is our January Home Learning grid to keep you busy.

I will give you a paper copy of our Scots poem when back in class however, for just now here is a link to the words and a performance of it with subtitles so you can have a go!

Don’t worry we’ll practise in class and all just have a go as it can be tricky!

The Scots competition will run in school again and I will put finalists forward on 6th February to Mrs Smith for the Burns Competition.

Poem – BBC – Robert Burns – Address To The Toothache

Performance with subtitles on Youtube.
