Class Assembly Script

Today in P3E, the class were all given their speaking part for our class assembly. It is very important that they begin to learn this at home, so they know it off by heart without the script for our assembly on Wednesday 25th March. Please make sure you bring the script back in each day to practise. Thank you for your support.

It has been so lovely to see the time and effort that has been put in at home in making the Viking artefacts for our upcoming assembly. Thank you so much for this, it is very much appreciated! Please remember to send these into school by Friday 27th February.
19/2/26
Cardboard
We are also seeking donations of relatively large pieces of cardboard (not cereal boxes or small items) to use for making our assembly props. Please send these in as soon as possible or drop them into the school office if they are too big to carry. It would be great if you can help us out!

HWB- Unsafe Situations

Yesterday we were learning all about unsafe situations as part of out HWB work. We discussed the situation, taking turns and maintaining eye contact with the speaker. We sat in a circle which helped in opening up the flow of the conversation. This also helped us to improve our listening and talking skills, as we all had an opportunity to discuss, share and then contribute. I was very impressed by the maturity shown by P3 during these discussions. Well done everyone!

18/2/26
Literacy-Grammar
We have been working at uplevelling sentences in our Literacy work and have been adding in the correct punctuation, capital letters etc. We are trying to transfer the skills learnt in grammar to other areas of Literacy such as Reading and Writing. Mr Burns created a ‘nonsense paragraph’ all about some members of our class, and we had to work together to ‘mend the sentence’. There were so many mistakes spotted, which we then discussed and rectified as a class. Well done everyone!

16/2/26

We enjoyed dressing up as our dream job to finish off ‘World of Work Week’. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

21/1/26

Arrays (Multiplication and Division)

Today we used a variety of active approaches to explore the concept of Arrays. We learnt about commutative law, and how no matter the way a multiplication calculation is written, we receive the same answer. We had to work in groups to either represent the array, or write the correct calculation for the given array. We then used connect four, counters and play doh to make our learning active and experiential.

21/1/26

We Are Building Our Future

This week, is World of Work week at Lochnorris! We have been so fortunate in P3E to be visited by people who have spoken so passionately about their careers. We used the My World of Work website to research a future career. We had to find out what skills/qualities our dream job would require, and write these on our ‘brick’. We then drew pictures of our ‘dream jobs’. These were added to our wall, positioned as a brick wall as we are ‘Building Our Future’ through our learning experiences.

20/1/26

We were very very excited today to be visited by firefighters from Cumnock Fire Station! This was to link to our Harmony topic theme of ‘Health’. We heard from the firefighters about how to keep safe around fireworks, in preparation for Bonfire Night. We had the opportunity to ask some questions, and Mr Burns was so impressed by the maturity, manners and school values shown throughout this (we even earned a respect star!). We then went outside to see the fire engine itself, learn about the hoses, claws and how hydrants are used to supply water to the engine. At the end, the firefighters gave us some leaflets relating to fire safety to take home. Our Classroom

Since our return from the holidays, we have revisited our class charter that we created in August, highlighting expectations and discussing how we can show our school values in all of our actions. We discussed how we move around the classroom and school, how to make best use of resources, interact with peers and school staff. We are all very proud of our classroom set up! Take a look at the photo below.

22/10/25

Dear Diary

Before the holidays, we wrote train diary entries. This enabled us to reflect on the content of a clip and imagine what it may have felt like to be on a steam train. A selection of this work is now proudly displayed in the corridor space outside our classroom.

22/10/25

Table Manners

Welcome back! As part of our HWB and IDL work this term, we will be learning about table manners. Today we read the story ‘Good Manners’ and spoke about how we can display these and ultimately show our school values. We then looked in depth at table manners and ranked these in order of importance. Our challenge for the next few weeks is to use appropriate table manners in the dinner hall and in the home, to then earn some tokens for our house team! Take a look at our pictures below.

10/10/25

Happy holidays! Term 1 complete. Have a wonderful break everyone!

How can we change the way we travel?- Aviation Industry

Today in P3E, we explored planes and pollution. We learnt about the features of types of aircrafts and about how we can make our journeys more eco friendly. We then (and this is the exciting bit), were given a piece of paper. Mr Burns asked us to design our paper with a pattern/design, but the next part of the lesson was where it got very very exciting! We then followed a step by step instruction guide to create our own paper aeroplanes! After this, we took our planes outside and tested them in the playground to see how well they could fly. Take a look at some of our photos below:

Great fun was had by everyone!

Steam Train Artwork

Today we continued our topic focus of ‘How can we change the way we travel?’. We have been learning about different modes of transport and about how we can actively travel to help save the environment. This week, we learnt about rail travel, exploring the history of this mode of transport and how this field has changed over the years. We created drawings of steam trains on white paper, labelling the features and writing which colours we would need, to help us plan our work. After this, we sketched these onto black paper, before using crayons to blend colours in our artwork. We are looking forward to making this into a wall display soon!

Maths Week Scotland- Outdoor Numeracy & Mathematics

We made the most of the crisp sunshine this morning by taking our Numeracy & Mathematics work outdoors! We played a game of ‘bowling alley’ where we rolled a ball towards the whiteboard and had to add the number we hit to the number at the top of the board. See our pictures below for some action shots!

We then had to collect the coloured cones and gather them in our teams. Each one of these was of a different value, so we had to add these all up and see what our totals were. Mr Burns was very impressed by the teamwork, supportive nature and mathematical skills shown in this task by everyone. Well done!

After this learning experience, I gathered some viewpoints from learners to find out how they found the outdoor activities. It was wonderful to have such positive feedback on the effectiveness of learning outdoors through an active approach!

Bug Club Books

Here are the bug club books for next week, WC 29th September. We will be working on these in class as part of our reading lessons. Remember, just read for enjoyment at home using the ‘my library’ section. We will read from the ‘my stuff’ section in class and complete the bugs as part of our Literacy work. We discussed as a class today which group learners were in, so this should help with this!

Roald Dahl: Little Red Riding Hoody

Enid Blyton: Amazing Trees

Julia Donaldson: Senses!

Ted Hughes: Rat and the Cat- Hat Trick

Thank you for your continued support!

Maths Week Scotland Open Afternoon

It was lovely to see so many of our P3E parents/carers at yesterday’s open afternoon. We took part in various mathematical games and activities, left a comment on the class blether board, wrote letters for a ‘rough day’ and used a QR code to access our class blog. Thank you to everyone who attended, it was great to see you!

Literacy- Writing

We have been learning about the genre of ‘Narrative’ writing. Today, we watched a video to spark our imagination. We then had to describe the setting of the video through using various prompts. Our ideas were fantastic and our writing contained lots of features of Narrative writing. Well done everyone!

Open Afternoon

We are very much looking forward to welcoming our P3E parents/carers to the first open afternoon of this session on Tuesday 23rd September (2pm-2:50pm). This will have a Numeracy and Mathematics focus for Maths Week Scotland and you will have the opportunity to participate in some active maths games with your child. There will also be the opportunity to leave a comment on our class ‘blether board’ and to write your child a ‘letter for a rough day’. We look forward to seeing you next week!

Bug Club

Last week, each child was given their bug club login so they can access this platform from home. To help with in class learning, it is important some reading is done at home. Any newly issued books will appear in the ‘my stuff’ section, with opened books being in the ‘my library’ section. We will read the newly issued books in class across the week.
Please note, there is no need to complete the bugs at home, we will do this in class as part of our reading lessons where we work on a variety of comprehension skills. Please use the time at home to read for enjoyment and promote personalisation and choice in terms of the texts your child accesses.

Respect Stars

This week in P3E, we earned our second ‘Respect Star’. We achieve these stars for showing our school values, following instructions, being respectful and completing our jobs successfully. We have voted as a class to have a movie afternoon when we achieve all of these stars. Well done everyone for your hard work!

Health and Wellbeing- Bravery and Resilience

As part of this term’s HWB work, we have been learning about our feelings. Today we focused on ‘Bravery’ and ‘Resilience’. We discussed times we had felt this way and created our own ‘Brave Superheroes’. Keep your eyes peeled for some pictures of these soon!

We then read the book ‘The Girl at the Front of the Class’, by Onjali Q Rauf as this book explores a theme of bravery and resilience through the storyline. We spoke so confidently about the events of the story and described how the main character, and those around her, had demonstrated both bravery and resilience. Well done everyone for your super, mature and insightful discussions!

Fantastic Fridays with Fantastic Mr Fox!

This week we were very excited to start our class novel, Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. We read the first chapter and answered some questions on the personalities of the three farmers. We are looking forward to using this novel as a way of developing active literacy skills in reading. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Our First Day in P3E

On our first day, we posed at the class photo booth to mark this occasion! We all looked so smart in our uniforms. We have had a great first few weeks getting to know each other, building our routines and working together. Well done everyone! Please make sure you complete photo consents on the school app soon so we can share more photos of our learning on here!

Thank you,

Mr Burns

Health and Wellbeing- Managing Emotions

P3E have been learning about different types of emotions and how we can manage these using positive strategies. We used the stories ‘Brave’ and ‘Kind’ to talk about our feelings before checking in with each other. We also took part in some ‘Yoga Monkey’ too!

Class Teacher

Class Charter- ‘Our Class is a Family’

Over the last few weeks, we have spent time in P3E working on our class charter. We learned about the UNCRC and discussed our rights. This led to us discovering the role we have as rights holders and the role staff have in our school to be duty bearers in ensuring rights are upheld. As a school, we are working towards our Rights Respecting Schools Silver Accreditation and we will be discussing rights in class and at assembly.

For our class charter, we read the book ‘Our Class is a Family’. We then create our own handprints and ‘wee people’ to add to the display.

I’m sure you’ll agree, it looks fantastic!
