This week we are starting to learn about 3d shapes. We looked around our classroom for 3d shapes. We then took our shape hunt round the inside of our school. We then looked at shapes with straight or curved sides too and made pictures using circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. The children named the shapes they used in their pictures and talked about their shape art.
The children then explored 2D shapes further using our magnetic shapes. They used the magnets and drew round shapes and patterns too.
Then Shakira noticed that these 2D shapes can join to make ones which stand up too- 3D shapes!

As part of outdoor learning this week, we have been revisiting the names and properties of 2D shapes. We came outdoors to do a 2D shape hunt together. We talked about some of the shapes we saw in our outdoor classroom and school playground, Then the children tried drawing the 2D shapes they had found using chalk on our damp playground. This practical play allowed for lots of talk about shapes, their sides and their corners. Next week we will move on to investigate 3D shapes too!

We fed the chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. Then we met the horse , the claves and the sheep. We loved the pigs and we milked the pretend cow. We played games too and listened well to Dumfries House teachers- Heather and Claire.
Indoor Leaf Sorting and creative leaf art (1.10.25)
The children sorted the leaves we found during our autumn walk . We sorted by type of tree/leaf and by colour then had fun making imaginative pictures with them. We worked indoors as it was windy!
Our October Autumn Walk (1.10.25)
We have been learning about the seasons of the year. We have been learning about how the trees change colour and about hibernation. The children went an autumn walk and gathered leaves, twigs, acorns and other exciting autumn finds. They then used a leaf identifier to identify the trees which the different leaves came from. We had a lovely afternoon and the weather was kind to us!
Welcome to October !

September -Numeracy
Our September focus has been on number rhymes, counting out objects, matching amounts to numbers to 5 or 10 and forming numbers too. We were counting indoors and outside too!
September – Literacy
Literacy – Active Literacy –
This month, we were excited to start Active Literacy, spelling with the phonemes we have been taught. To help us learn we have to say the word, break it up ( at = a t), make it with the magnetic letters, blend it and read it then finally write it in the elkinon boxes. We tried our best and had a go!

Each week we will be spelling using these strategies.
Our focus has also been on reading and enjoying traditional tales, learning about rhyming words, writing our first names and learning our class literacy routines.
