A GIGLETS free live storytelling event for schools

A free live storytelling event for schools

Dear teacher,

As summer approaches and the weather is just right for outdoor adventures, Giglets are delighted to be hosting a special online event with storyteller Elaine Truckell.
Elaine will deliver a wonderful live and interactive reading of Going Camping for teachers and pupils in classes across the UK.
There are two sessions to choose from: 2 pm on Thursday 9th June or 9.30 am on Friday 10th June. The story is appropriate for pupils in lower primary school and the event can be joined on a computer and shared on your classroom display board.

Register for 2 pm on Thursday 9th June

Register for 9.30 am on Friday 10th June

No preparation is necessary but as a Giglets subscribed teacher you can already access the story. This Giglets original story is a fun but simple, rhyming text following two children on their camping adventure.

This storytelling event will be recorded as we plan to share the video with teachers and pupils who cannot attend on the day. If you want to enjoy the fun but do not wish to be seen, then please join us but make sure your camera and microphone are turned off. You can still participate in the activities and a Giglets Goodies Giveaway using the chat box and social media.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on support@giglets.com.

We hope to see you soon!

Best wishes,

Who is this training for?

If you are new to East Ayrshire and using Giglets, this training is for you! Training is also suitable for those who have some, little or no experience of using Giglets and those who would like to become more confident using Giglets. This training is aimed at schools who have not been able to arrange whole school Giglets training.

Please circulate this to all staff who may be interested.

Giglets is a great tool for supporting the delivery of East Ayrshire Active Literacy and your literacy curriculum and can also enhance other curricular areas. All learners, including those with Additional Support Needs and English as an Additional Language, benefit from Giglets.

The Giglets online library gives you access to over 1000 texts across 37 different languages, almost 400 of which are in English. We have thousands of resources ready for you to use including sets of higher order thinking skills questions and automatically marked reading test questions. Reading on Giglets is accessible and engaging as children and young people can change the font, size and colours as well as watch fun animations and listen to theme music.

Building Blocks of Literacy – A SWEIC Professional Learning Opportunity

Building Blocks of Literacy – A SWEIC Professional Learning Opportunity

In 2019 East and North Ayrshire collaborated to deliver professional learning on literacy to a cohort of P1 teachers from both authorities. In 2020, we moved to an online format and opened the professional learning sessions to all four SWEIC authorities. Over 120 P1 teachers from over 70 schools joined this year’s programme. We have very positive feedback from the teachers on both the learning inputs and the opportunity to discuss the content and the impact on practice with other staff from across the SWEIC.

This year we are delighted to open up the opportunity to any teachers in the SWEIC who are working with children at the Early stage of literacy learning. The programme will have the same content as last session:  an in-depth focus on literacy learning and teaching at this stage providing teachers with the knowledge of what underpins literacy learning and the tools to build a reader and writer. The delivery team includes experienced teachers and Speech and Language Therapists.

East Ayrshire teachers who are interested should speak to their HT who can contact gail.elder@eastayrshire.org.uk and add names to this form
