Chief Seattle’s Speech
Chief Seattle was a First Nations Native American leader who grew up in a world which would seem very familiar to Torak. In 1854 Chief Seattle made a speech warning about the damage being done to nature. The speech ended with these words, “This we know: Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.” Can you put this into your own words?

- Chief Seattle was worried that the way some people were choosing to live was damaging the natural world. Can you think of 3 things we could each do to reduce the damage that we do to the natural world?
- Are there other people we know of from the past or the present who tried or are trying to send a message similar to Chief Seattle’s?

For example – always recycle your litter, buy things with less packaging (can you write a letter/email/message the manufacturers of your favourite snacks to find out what they are doing to reduce the amount of litter sent to landfill?)
