Blindfolded and with the help of a someone from your household, explore a tree using most but not all of your senses. Can you find your tree once your blindfold has been removed?
This sheet from Learning through Landscapes explains what you do. Though the sheet says this activity is for children aged 12 and above, it can be done and enjoyed by children from age 5 and above.
My Street Tree
Get to know a local tree very well indeed! The tree can be in your garden, your street or local park. If you cannot visit an actual tree, choose a large plant like a butterfly bush or other garden shrub. This activity from Wildlife Watch will give you ideas for how to look closely at your tree and learn what makes it special for you, your community and the living things that rely on it for shelter and food.
Explore the Competition for Resources between Animals
Gather your family together and Play Oh Dear and find out how animals compete with one another for resources. An outdoor space would work best for this so perhaps you could do this in the park when you go out for your daily exercise together.
