Playground Development – Onthank

Pupils at Onthank Primary School excitedly returned after the weekend to see the great work staff had done  in creating new interesting line markings in their playground.

Miss Anderson, Primary 6 teacher said ” We have a lot concrete in our playground and since the return in August, we were really aware of the increase in time that children were spending outdoors in quite bland spaces. We needed to find some solutions so we borrowed a line marker from the Learning Outdoors Support Team and got to work. The results have been brilliant!”

“The playground paintings have made such a positive impact on the children’s breaks in such a short time.  As Headteacher, observing the play, laughter and engagement I really wish we had done this sooner.  I was so impressed at how the children found different ways to use the new markings and was delighted to hear them express to their friends how much fun they were having.  I’m looking forward to seeing how each class can use this to stimulate physical activity in the future”.

Children love the new designs too “The playground is so much more colourful, I like playing hopscotch”.

“Me and my friends enjoy having races on the new tracks, I think all this practising will make me faster on Sports Day”.
