Physical Letters and Numbers

A multi-sensory approach to learning can be useful for all learners and writing outdoors can be just that! This multi sensory approach can help learners to retain the concepts and, of course, have fun!

Resources required: chalk, string, paper, card or just a helping hand!

Draw the shape of letters or numbers on the ground in chalk – make them nice and big! Encourage your learner to walk/hop/jump around them and talk about the sound as they go.  If you don’t have chalk, or want to make it a bit more exciting, why not try following string, pieces of paper or card, or just hold a hand and walk around in the shape of letters or numbers, making the sounds as you go!
