Learn how to filter water

Across the world, many people do not have access to clean water.  This lesson, which is linked to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, supports pupils to examine the need for clean water, how we get clean water, what needs to be done to filter and purify water and the impact of not having clean water.  The lesson is supported by resources from STEM learning who provide videos and further information here: How Can We Clean Our Dirty Water?

This is a second level science investigation: I have investigated water samples from the environment and explored methods that can be used to clean and conserve water and I am aware of the properties and uses of water.  SCN 2-18a

In the lesson, pupils will investigate and discuss the methods used to filter water.  They will think about the need for and the importance of clean water and will examine how we get our clean water.  The lesson could be extended by exploring which parts of the world do not have clean water, why this is and what we could do to help.
