Journey Stick

A versatile and fun activity to explore different textures on a journey around your garden, house or on a walk.

Get yourself a stick and tie a piece of string, wool or twine to the top of it.  Use this to wrap and tie on different objects found on your walk around the area.  This can help children to recall and sequence events, to feel different textures or to map a walk that they went on.

Further instructions are found here:

A way to simplify the journey stick is to cut a piece of card and attach double sided tape or folded over sellotape in strips.  Objects found can then be stuck onto these strips.  You could also give your child a sellotape arm band and stick objects onto this as you walk.
