When Horton searched for the clover that the Wickersham Brothers had snatched from him, he piled up “nine thousand and five” clover flowers. Can you partition the number – how many thousands are there, how many hundreds, how many tens and how many units?
Using the same digits, can you make new numbers? Which is the smallest number you can make using 9, 0, and 5? Which is the largest?
Game 2
Write the digits 0 to 9 on small pieces of scrap paper. Pick 3 from your collection of digits. What is the biggest number you can make with those digits? Tip – you will be able to make a 3 digit number, a number that has hundreds, tens and units.
Digits written on stones or bottle tops with permanent marker are fun and easy to move around and manipulate. Challenge other people in your house to make numbers – Can you make the biggest number using these digits? What is the next number after/before – can you make it?
