Spending a lot of time outdoors makes us very aware of the need for easy access to toilet facilities!
In Scotland, we assume that access to toilets is something we should be able to take for granted. Incredibly, around the world, 4.2 billion people are living without access to safely managed sanitation.
World Toilet Day, 19th November, celebrates toilets and raises awareness of this inequity. It is about taking action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
1 Take Positive Action
Ask learners to become involved in positive action like sponsoring a toilet through
https://www.toilettwinning.org/
Through contributing my views, time and talents, I play a part in bringing about positive change in my school and wider community.

2 Understand the Implications of Climate Change
World Toilet Day Learning Resources support learning in the following Experiences and Outcomes:
I can identify threats facing the main climate zones,
including climate change, and analyse how these threats impact on the way of life. SOC 4-12a
I can carry out a geographical enquiry to assess the impact
and possible outcomes of climate change on a selected region and can propose strategies to slow or reverse the impact. SOC 4-12b
3 Waste Management and Mitigation of Climate Change
The responsible management of sewage systems can actually play a role in supporting climate action. Waste from these systems can be part of a process of ensuring healthy soils which in turn have an important part in carbon sequestration. See also World Soil Day – 5th December, 2020
