Outdoor Education Centre: Kilmarnock

EAC has maintained a non residential Outdoor Education Centre within St Joseph’s Campus, Kilmarnock since 1996, with the present purpose built facility opening in 2008.

The OEC provides: a hub for the development of outdoor learning throughout the region, a base for the LOST staff team, an equipment lending library, and a training facility which can exemplify outdoor learning  across 3-18 from playground to climbing wall.

The OEC is on a shared educational campus, with early years, primary and secondary pupils.  It’s  a short walk to Kilmarnock’s country parks, rail and bus stations. Accessible by car north or south being  just 1 turn off the A77.

The OEC is an awarding centre for Institute for Outdoor LearningSports Leaders UKThe Duke of Edinburgh Award, The John Muir Award, British Orienteering, Learning through Landscapes and the SQA through our school partnership.

The OEC is a member of the Institute for Outdoor Learning, Mountaineering Scotland, Climb Scotland, The Outdoor Partnership Ayrshire, Outdoor and Woodland Learning Ayrshire, The Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres.

As an East Ayrshire Council facility we hold an Adventure Activities License and operate within the same procedures as our other education establishments.
