Horton Hears a Who! – RME Activities

Horton Hears a Who!

Religious and Moral Education

This is a Dr Suess book with a powerful message – ‘ A person’s a person, no matter how small.’  Watch Jeff Goldblum reading the story before trying out some of the activities You Tube – Horton Hears a Who!

These activities are suitable for learners working at Early to Second Level depending on the level of support.

Explore What Makes Each of Us in Our Community Special

Using “A person’s a person, no matter how small,” to open discussion, draw portraits of each person in your household and surround each portrait with positive statements about the person portrayed.

Statements can be very brief – ‘Jane is always smiling.’  ‘Don has beautiful handwriting.’ This can be extended to include members of the family who don’t live with you, neighbours and friends.

Create a book entitled A Person’s A Person which gathers the drawings and text together.  This can be as simple as making a cover page and stapling it to the front of your collection of portraits.

What Makes Us the Same, What Makes Us Different

An Oxfam sequence of lessons (with associated films and photographs) allows us to find out about the lives of 4 children from different countries around the world.
