Horton Hears a Who! Health and Well Being Activities

Horton Hears a Who! – Health and Wellbeing Activities

This is a Dr Suess book with a powerful message – ‘ A person’s a person, no matter how small.’  Watch Jeff Goldblum reading the story before trying out some of the activities You Tube – Horton Hears a Who!

These activities are suitable for learners working at Early to Second Level depending on the level of support.

What Makes a Good Friend?

The Whos told Horton he was “a very fine friend.”  How did they know Horton was such a good friend?  Make a list of clues from the story.  Make a list of the things you could do to show people you are “a very fine friend.”

Whoville Teamwork Task

The other animals heard the Whos only once all of the Whos worked as a team to make their voices heard.

Build Whoville from scrap materials as a team.  Give each member of the team a different part of the town to construct.  Agree on a plan of action – who will do what job, what materials you will use, when the job should be complete. Take a photo of the different parts of town under construction and take a photo of the finished town once it has all been put together.

Games for Building Co-operative and Collaborative Skills

The booklet  PLAY, LEARN AND HAVE FUN! has many ideas for games that require everyone to play their part.   Most of the games need very little equipment.   Some do need space outdoors to play.

Try Kim’s Game.  Kim’s Game needs only two or more  players.  You can play this game indoors/outdoors, in a large space/in a small space.

What Makes a Good Listener?

CfE Es and Os HWB 0-05a / HWB 1-05a / HWB 2-05a

At first, only Horton could hear the Whos.  Why?  Was it just because he had big, elephant ears or did he have other qualities that made him a good listener?

Are you a good listener?  Give reasons for your answer.

How do you feel when no-one listens to you?

How do you make people feel when you don’t listen to them?
