ACE HALLOWEEN ASSEMBLIES

dsc06997dsc07024dsc07042

Kilmarnock Academy Assembly Hall was the place to be on Friday 28th October.
S1, S2 and S3 pupils who had achieved the ACE awards had their reward in the form of Hallowe’en-themed assemblies.
To qualify, pupils had to achieve over 90% in the school’s merit points system. Positive behaviours like punctuality, good behaviour, hard work and effort are rewarded with points while points are lost by negative behaviours like disruption, late-coming and failing to bring in homework on time.
Almost all S1 pupils won the right to attend and were treated to Apple Dookin and the Mummy-wrap game. Wallace House speared the most apples and Burns and Wallace drew for the best mummy, making Wallace the overall winners. Adam Corbett and Aiden Sutherland had the best fancy dress.
S2 played Pass the Raisin (won by Wallace and Scott) and Ghostly Waiter, which was won by Scott and Burns making Scott the overall winners. Best costumes were Bailey Douglas and Cean Speirs.
S2 played Pass the Pumpkin, won by Callum Kilpatrick, Jordan Stewart and Morgan Allan; and The Scarecrow Relay, won by Burns.
All three Assemblies also included a Quiz: The Price is Right in honour of Finance day, the winners of which will be announced later.

EDINBURGH BOOK FESTIVAL – AUGUST 2016

group-photo          charlotte-square

S2 pupils were taken to the Edinburgh Book Festival in August this year,  we saw two events:  Katherine Howe, Lisa Heathfield and Anne Cassidy.  Pupils got the chance to listen to the authors, hear extracts from books and were given time to ask questions at the end. Pupils purchased books and had them signed by the authors at a meet-and-greet after each event. Pupils visited the book shop and had their lunch in the enclosed space on Charlotte Square before we headed back home.

S1 author visit

Philip Caveney (who also writes as Danny Weston) visited the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock on Thursday 20th October. Miss Black and Mrs Ainsworth took some lucky S1 pupils along to hear him talk about his books. After the event, pupils had the chance to ask questions and get books signed by the author. Some of our S1 pupils took part in a scary story competition in the run up to the event. Three of the best entries are featured in the October issue of Brilliant Books. Have a look here: brilliant-books-october-2016

S1 & S2 Maths Success

We are very pleased to congratulate our S1 and S2 pupils who each achieved over 90% in our first block of assessments before the October Holiday.  This is fantastic.

S1 classes have now been set according to effort, attitude and performance and our top students are shown below. Left to right, well done to Ellie Clark, Cameron Shanks, Liam Marshall, Ben Newman, Beth Maclean (99%), Alix McAteer, Chanelle Paterson, Isla Raeburn, Jody McGill and Freya Gilmour (99%). Missing from the photo is Alex Kasprzak.

In S2, congratulations to Taylor McIntyre, Callan Duncan, Rebecca Bell and Amy Wilson.  Not as many as in S1 – but I think that’s because the Maths gets harder!
