Term 4 2023/2024

Overview of Learning

Literacy

In Reading we will be working in Reciprocal Reading Circles to explore short stories and further develop our use of reading strategies with a focus on: Prediction; Metalinguistics; Questioning and Summarising.

We will be actively participating in group discussions to improve our talking and listening skills and working with a partner to plan and deliver a short talk.

In writing we are going to be studying how to write a discursive essay by studying texts showing a balanced argument. We will also be working on a unit of Narrative writing, later in the term.

We will also continue to learn more phonemes and practise our words through a variety of active spelling strategies. We might even manage some of these outside and hopefully the sun shines!

Numeracy and Mathematics

In Numeracy we will be exploring patterns and relationships.  We will then be looking at fractions with a focus on comparing and ordering, equivalent fractions and finding more complex fractions of a quantity. This will lead onto work on finding basic percentages of an amount and then exploring the links between fractions, decimals and percentages.

This term we will be completing our unit on shape and then will move on to learning how to calculate the Area and Perimeter of simple and complex shapes.

Health and Wellbeing

We are going to finish studying how our brains work and what it means to be neurodivergent. We will then be looking at how to help in emergency situations including water safety.

In PE we are going to learn how to play Volleyball, golf and cricket. We are also going to be practising hard for Sports Day and improve our sprinting skills.

Science

We will be in investigating the following topics: Light and Shadow; Micro-organisms; Chemical Reactions.

ICT

We will be using the Micro bits V2 which allow us to build on previous learning by adding sound to our coding tasks.

We will also be using the I-pads to explore Music.

French

In Term 4 we are going to be learning the names of food in French and how to ask for these by showing our preference. We will also look at Foreign Currency and learn how to convert this into GBP.

Expressive Arts

In Art we will be looking to refine our skills in the visual elements and relate some of this to seasonal art. We will also link our Maths topic of tessellation to Art and study the works of Escher.

In Music we well be using Garage Band on the I-pads to create our own music using different instruments to experiment with rhythm and melody.
