Term 1 Overview of Learning
Literacy & Language
In Term 1, we will be building on our previous knowledge of Active Literacy spelling strategies and activities to develop our spelling knowledge and explore more complex phonemes.
We will be using the short novel Wonder to reinforce and develop our reading strategies focusing on inference and question types.
In our writing we will be studying recounts by writing about our personal experience and developing our use of VCOP to help improve our writing standards.
In French we will consolidate previous learning of numbers and colours across our learning, whilst studying the new vocabulary of classroom items and commands.
Numeracy & Mathematics
This term we will be continuing with our Number Talks, following the school strategy of the week, to develop our mental numeracy skills.
We will be focusing on the following concepts:
- Place Value
- Rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000
- Rounding to estimate in addition and subtraction
In Maths, we will be studying angles by identifying their features and learn how to measure them using a protractor.
Health and Wellbeing
In our health and wellbeing we will be focusing on creating our class charter by studying the rights of the child and selecting the rights we want to exercise in school.
We are also going to be studying online safety to help us understand the importance of keeping safe when using the internet at home and at school.
In PE we will be developing our fitness skills and working together cooperatively and sometimes competitively on team games.
Social Subjects and Interdisciplinary Learning
Our Social Subjects topic will be The Rainforest. We will explore the following aspects:
- Where they are found
- Common features of rainforests
- Plant and animal species
- The benefits of the rainforest
- Why and how we should protect them
ICT
In ICT we will be improving our word processing skills and further developing our use of Glow and Teams.
Expressive Arts
In Art we will explore line and colour and use our Rainforest topic as a stimulus for creating our own artwork.
