Term 3 2023/2024

Overview of Learning

Literacy & Language 

In Term 3, we will continue to be use the Active Literacy spelling strategies and activities to develop our spelling knowledge and explore new and extended phoneme representations. 

We will be reading the novel Titanic Detective Agency to explore the following reading strategies to help us when reading as a group and independently: Prediction; Metalinguistics; Inference and Visualisation. This novel also links to our topic for the term.  

We will be learning how to write in Scots for a wee change and then we will work on learning about the difference between formal and informal language. We will then use this to help us write letters for different audiences. 

MLPS 

This term we are going to be continuing to learn Gaelic with our visiting teacher every Friday. We will also continue to learn some French too. 

 Numeracy & Mathematics 

This term we will be continuing with our Number Talks, following the school strategy of the week, to develop our mental numeracy skills. 

We will be focusing on the following concepts: 

  • Identifying multiples and factors 
  • Recall table facts from the 2-12 times tables 
  • Solve 2,3 and 4  digit problems using mental and formal written methods for multiplying and dividing 

In Maths we will focus on extending our knowledge of telling the time using analogue and digital displays and calculating time durations as well as interpreting information from a range of timetables. We will also study 2D and 3D shape properties later in the term. 

Health & Wellbeing 

This term we will look at Substance Misuse and then we will study the workings of our brain in some Neurodiversity lessons. 

In PE we will be learning to develop our ball skills and will participate in Play Leader training with Active Schools 

Social Subjects and Interdisciplinary Learning 

Our topic for our third term is ‘Titanic.  We will be learning about: 

  • The construction 
  • The class system 
  • Facilities on Titanic 
  • Well known passengers 
  • The Captain 
  • The journey and sinking of Titanic 

 Our Expressive Arts and ICT will link to our Titanic topic. Our ICT will also involve inputs on coding and programming using microbits.  

 RME 

This term we will be studying the Easter story.
