Term 1 2024/2025

Termly Outline 

Literacy & Language 

In Term 1, we will be using the Active Literacy spelling strategies and activities to develop our spelling knowledge and explore phonemes 

We will be reading the novel Wonder to explore the following reading strategies to help us when reading as a group and independently: Prediction; Metalinguistics; Visualisation; Inference and Question Types 

We will be using VCOP to develop our writing and using the novel as a stimulus as well as looking at writing some different styles of poetry. 

 

French 

In French our topics will be: 

  • The calendar and how to write the date  
  • Numbers 
  • Classroom commands.  

 

Numeracy & Mathematics 

This term we will be continuing with our Number Talks, following the school addition strategy of the week, to develop our mental numeracy skills. 

We will be focusing on the following concepts: 

  • Place Value of 2 to 7-digit numbers 
  • Rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 
  • Adding mentally 
  • Symmetry and Reflection 

Health & Wellbeing 

This term we will discuss the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and select articles we feel are important to create our Class Charter. 

In PE we are improving our fitness levels through fitness/athletics stations and relays.  We will be outside as much as possible. 

Social Subjects/Science and Interdisciplinary Learning 

Our class has chosen The Caribbean as our mini topic for the first part of Term 1.  The pupils have decided they would like to learn about:   

  • Where the Caribbean is 
  • What countries and islands make up the Caribbean 
  • The culture of the Caribbean 
  • How life in the Caribbean compares to Scotland 

Our Expressive Arts and ICT will link to our Caribbean work. 

In Science we will be carrying out experiments to learn about Light and Shadow.
