Literacy

Reading

This term, we will be reading ‘The Worst Witch’ by Jill Murphy. We will be developing our comprehension skills using the 6 comprehension strategies and we will begin developing our answers to literal and inferential questions.

Pupils will also be encouraged to read for enjoyment, participating in ERIC (Everyone Reading In Class) time.

Writing

This term we will be explore a variety of genres over the next 4 weeks connected to our IDL on Scottish Football. We will explore biographies and recount writing before moving onto a block of explanation writing.

Spelling

Pupils will continue to explore Active Spelling strategies using Stage 4/5 of the SAC OCTOPUS programme.

 

Numeracy and Maths

This term we will be exploring:

  • Place value – up to 5 digits
  • Rounding and estimation
  • Negative numbers
  • Addition – up to 4 digits
  • Subtraction – up to 4 digits
  • Data Handling
  • We will also continue to develop our mental arithmetic by taking part in daily ‘Number Talk’ sessions.

Health and Wellbeing

Our focus this term in HWB will be emotional literacy and friendships/ relationships. We will also create a Class Charter while looking at the UNRC.

Physical Education

In PE, we will be developing our skills in running, jumping and throwing during our athletics lessons. We will also work on improving our stamina during fitness sessions.

 

 IDL

This term we will explore two mini topics. The first topic is on Scottish Football and was chosen by the pupils of P5b. We will be investigating:

  • History of football in Scotland
  • Locations/capacities of football stadiums
  • Teams in the SPFL
  • Famous Scottish footballers
  • Women in Scottish football

We will then move onto  Extreme Earth. This topic will explore:

  • Structure of Earth
  • Tectonic Plates
  • Climate
  • Water Cycle
  • Natural Disasters
  • Global Warming
