Term 1 2023/2024

Literacy & Language

Primary 1

In Term 1, we will be learning a selection of Nursery Rhymes to help us hear and identify rhyming words. We will also be learning to count and identify syllables in words. We will be starting to learn our phonemes as part of our Active Literacy.

Primary 2

In Term 1, we will be continuing to learn new phonemes as part of our Active Literacy and how to say, make, break, blend, read and write them in words. We will also be learning to write in sentences and how to develop these using punctuation.

Numeracy & Maths

Primary 1

This term, we will be exploring numbers to 10. We will learn what each number represents, how to write the numbers and how to sequence numbers. We will also create patterns and sequences with colours, objects and shapes.

Primary 2

This term, we will be learning how to subtract within 10 using concrete materials and number lines. We will also be linking addition and subtraction facts within 10. We will start to develop our knowledge of money, including the use of coins up to 10 pence. We will begin to explore the recording and processing of data in simple graphs.

Health & Wellbeing

As we will be settling in to our new school and our new class, we will be setting up our class charter. We will also be talking about our feelings and emotions, thinking about how we feel in different situations. We will also be exploring how to form positive relationships and be a good friend to others.

When we are at PE, we will be developing our spatial awareness and gross motor skills.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our topic for our first term is ‘Transport from the Past’. We will be learning about different types of transport throughout the years and how this has been used in our community and enabled faster and efficient travel.
