Literacy

Primary 1

In Term 1, we will be learning a selection of Nursery Rhymes to help us hear and identify rhyming words. We will also be learning to count and identify syllables in words. We will be starting to learn our phonemes as part of our Active Literacy.

Primary 2

This term we will be continuing to learn our joined phonemes in class and as part of our homework. We will use our word attack strategies to read stories about Biff, Chip and Kipper. This term we will be concentrating on writing with more independence using capital letters and full stops.

 

Numeracy

Primary 1

This term, we will be exploring numbers to 10. We will learn what each number represents, how to write the numbers and how to sequence numbers. We will also create patterns and sequences with colours, objects and shapes.

Primary 2

In number we will be looking at fact families and counting on and back within 100. We will be using number talks to enhance our mental maths strategies on a regular basis. In Maths we will be learning to use tally marks and be able to input these results into various graphs and discuss answers with our peers.

 

Health and Wellbeing

 

This term we will be  creating our class charter using the UNESCO rights of a child as a learning tool. We will also be thinking about friendship and what it is to be a good friend.  In PE we will be developing our skills in running, jumping and throwing through the topics of athletics and fitness.

Topic

This term we will be discovering different aspects of life under the sea and having a fun look at pirates.
