Monday 25th April P2/1

Good morning, I hope you have had a lovely weekend. Last week we had some fun doing gym outdoors and had lots of fun in the D zone. Fingers crossed we have some more sunshine this week and lots in this busy last term. Can’t quite believe we are now in term 4. One of the topics you will be hearing about this term is magnetism so please keep a look out for anything magnetic at home or when you are out and about.

Language for this week

Nemo – diagraph ow like the word snow not clown.

Common words – to read, write and spell are blue, best, number and other

Dory – diagraph ea like leaf not spread

Common words – had, see, has

I will also add some new Education City tasks and remove some that we have had on for a while now.

Please continue to share reading books at home and I will shortly issue some new word lists to learn,  to support reading this term.

Maths for this week

We are working on the understanding of money just now in maths, which is forever evolving due to society using more and more cards, if possible if you can find some time to share with your children coin collections reinforcing what they look like and make different monetary values using a variety of coins. if you can please look at Topmarks money games like Toy shop and The coin cruncher. We will also be looking at partitioning numbers to support this work in class for example 58p is 50p and 8p but then the children need to think about what coins make 8p such as 8 x 1p, 4 x 2p, or 5p 2p 1p.

Thanks for your continued support and enjoy playing shops with money or looking for magnetic items.

Welcome Back P7F!

Welcome back P7F, it’s your last term in primary school and it’s going to be a busy and exciting one!

This week, we have focused on getting back into our routine and will be looking to practise the skills we will need going forward into secondary school. We know that our best effort will be expected in S1 so we are focusing on creating quality work this term.

In maths, we will be continuing to develop our multiplication skills and our calculations, as well as explore timetables, learning about time and data handling.

For literacy, we will be starting our new class novel “Divided City”. We will also be working on fine tuning skills such as using correct punctuation, using the spelling strategies we have been taught and creating different genres of writing.

Here are some pictures of some of the things we got up to this week:

Have a lovely weekend, enjoy the sunshine and see you Monday!

P4 – Week beginning: 18.4.22

Hello Primary 4! 🙂

I hope you have all settled back into school after the Easter holiday! Mrs Ferguson and I have enjoyed hearing all about what you got up to on the Easter holidays. We have had a lovely week at school. We welcomed a new student and have been helping him to get to know the class and school. We have been working on our instructional writing creating instructions for how to cross the road safely for the younger classes. Last Term we were looking at synonyms and created a class book of synonyms to help our writing and this week we have been looking at antonyms. We had lots of fun using construction to complete challenges and learning how to say different types of weather in French.

If you would like to play the games we did on the laptops just copy this link – https://www.french-games.net/frenchlessons?topic=World%20-%20weather&level=primary

Hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Baillie and Mrs Ferguson 🙂

P7J Week Beginning 18th April

Week 1 of Term 4 got of to a sizzling start with some stir-frying to make spring rolls.  We had to peel, grate, chop and slice a mixture of vegetables before stir frying them with some seasoning.  Once cooked, we made spring rolls by wrapping the mixture in filo pastry.  Everyone did brilliantly!

After a long holiday, we also took some time to refresh our thinking skills with a problem solving challenge.  The challenge was to make 3 equally sized squares using 4 long straws and 4 short straws.  Lots of creative ideas were tried but it was Shaun and Tyler who were first to find the solution. Well done!

We have also started training for the Sports Championship events: long jump, vertical high jump, basket ball shoot, tennis ball throw and sprinting.  We will continue training next week, with the main event taking place the following week.

Next week, we will begin a new novel study and the P7 research projects will get under way.

P1L and Mrs Cuthbertson – 22.04.22

Good morning,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. We were so lucky that the sun came out for us. Our story this week is ‘The house that Jack built’. The children made super story maps and added their own sentences to share some of the ideas in the story.

We will have a very busy week next week.

Phonics – continuing to recap all of our sounds and learning about the grapheme ‘wh’.

We will recap our common words. Each child has a sounds card and common words card in their homework pack. Please remember to take them out at night and go over the words and sounds with your child.

Numeracy and maths We will continue with addition and subtraction and will recap money. Look at coins up to £2 with your child. Let them pay for things in the shop and maybe work out the amount they need and the change they might get.

We will explore  how to keep ourselves safe and how to get help in an emergency – Police, Fire, Ambulance.

We will take part in outdoor learning now the weather is good.

Can you please return your child’s learning scrapbook, even if the dice activity is not finished, This will allow us to put the next activity in.

I hope the sun stays out and you all have a lovely weekend,

Hugs from Mrs Cuthbertson xxx

P6: week beginning 18.04.22

Welcome back!  I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are ready for our final term in Primary 6!

On Tuesday for Literacy we did a piece of personal writing on our holiday and learned the rules for adding the suffix ing onto root words. Our numeracy task was to round whole numbers and decimal numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. In the afternoon we used printing skills to create a picture of spring flowers in a vase.

We had a busy day on Wednesday as we were carrying out surveys as part of our Information Handling in maths.  We also finished our art work and began our new topic on Europe.

On Thursday we had our first Thinking Time session with some other classes. It was nice to get together and share our ideas and have a singalong!

P3/2 Welcome to term 4!

Back with the sunshine as usual!!
Although…..it will be lovely to be able to do outdoor learning without our stuff flying all over the playground this term!

Homework this term will continue with children being asked to learn spelling words most weeks and complete Numeracy Scrapbook activities. We are using new reading books this term and won’t be sending them home at the moment but children may have word lists or games to try to help with their reading.

We’ve had a super start to term 4 this week. The children all seem well rested and enthusiastic to be back.

This term, in PE, we will be doing some gymnastics and athletics activities.

In maths, we are starting with a block of data handling.

We will continue our Ocean topic for a few more weeks as there are lots of things we still wan to learn about.

In French we will continue learning our colours and work on our greetings.

We have been learning about food too. We looked at the journey of tuna from the ocean to our plates. We talked about favourites tastes and tried some new foods. We have planted Kale and are going to try it in a smoothie then look at how we could advertise the healthy drink. We are looking at which foods come from where. Lots of fun and interesting things to learn!

Our next block of outdoor learning is a mixture of numeracy, literacy, science and PE. This will be on a Friday afternoon.

Here are some pictures from the week so far…
