P7 Week beginning 15th May

It has been a very active week in P7 with the Sports Championships getting well underway. P6 and 7 have been competing in the long jump, high jump, over arm throw, basketball shoot and sprint events. Everyone made a great effort for the heats; congratulations to all who have made it through to the finals! We can’t wait to find out who our champions are for 2023.

In numeracy we have been calculating percentages using calculators. Our STATWARS project also links to maths and data handling. We have been collecting data about our energy usage and using a spreadsheet to calculate CO2 emissions, we have discovered that most of our CO2 emissions at home come from our boilers.  As well as this, we have conducted a survey about climate change across the classes and collated the results, next week we will convert the results into percentages.

Science, literacy and art have all been involved in learning about the structure of Earth. Everyone has done a super job of following instructions, making notes and creating a lift the flap model of Earth and what’s below the surface.

Personal research  projects are due in next week but they can be handed in earlier if they’re finished.

Weekend Walking Challenge

To gain more points for our Mission to the Moon counter, the team have added a weekend walking challenge to encourage everyone to get out for a walk at the weekend.

There are bees hidden in a variety of places for you to spot on your walk. Then log the number of bees you’ve seen and where via the QR code.

Have a look at the poster for places to walk and for the QR code.

Have fun!Mission to the Moon & World Bee Day Walk

P3 with Mrs Ferguson 12.5.23

Hi everyone,

It has been a huge privilege to spend my days with P3 Mrs McMillan’s class this week.  They have been super hard working and hopefully they’ve had some fun too.

We have been continuing the theme of the Coronation by creating royal portraits, designing royal carriages, building castles, having a café/tea party play area, designing and making coronation tea cups, learning tricky royal theme words and writing letters to the King!!!!

Here are some photographs to show your the amazing work…

Community Litter Pick

We are going to have a community litter pick on Wednesday the 31st of May from 3.15 until 4.15.

It would be great to have some children and adults involved.

Please join us!

We have some litter pickers and hi vis vests to share, or bring your own.

The Eco committee have chosen to clean up the area around and in Richardson Park and the street down to the Coop.

We will all meet at the front entrance to the school to get equipment and then break off in groups for a litter picking loop. It would be great to see you there!

P6: Week beginning 1st May 2023

What a quick week after the long weekend and another Monday holiday to look forward to.

This week in P6 we have been pushing ahead with our Planets and Space topic. We have learned how the tilt of the Earth causes the seasons to change as the planet orbits the sun. We also looked at the phases of moon and made moon spinners to help us remember the names and order of the phases. Next week we will find out about solar and lunar eclipses.

In Literacy, we used our higher order thinking skills to help us understand the next couple of chapters in our class novel. We also predicted the plot and wrote a character speech as the Demon Headmaster. Our spelling focus was Space topic vocabulary and for listening and talking, we kept up to date with current affairs on Newsround.

This week in Numeracy, we revised key learning for fractions, decimals and percentages. Then we completed an assessment before moving on to our next unit which is Patterns and Sequences.

On Thursday we practised more events for the Sports Championship including the standing high jump and the basketball shoot. After lunch we had our football training session. Everyone put in 100% effort.

Today we are taking part in some activities to mark the up and coming Coronation of Charles lll. These include invitation writing, collage art and reading for research. We’ll continue with more coronation activities on Tuesday.

Enjoy the long weekend.
