Hello P2B,
We has a fantastic time last week doing our Halloween activities. Unfortunately we did not have time for our jokes on the Friday as we were so busy enjoying our activities. We are going to tell our jokes on Wednesday afternoon so make sure you remember them. On Monday we practiced our Spanish as we learned about the Spanish holiday Dia de los muertos. We will learn about Guy Fawkes this week and make big poppies for our class window on Friday. Make sure to look out for them on Friday after school. The class have got poppies home to decorate and put in your window at home (similar to the rainbows during lockdown) to remember those that fought in the war.
We have been looking at the phonemes “ph” and “n” this week. Here are some words to practice at home. Along with your common words that need to be learned to aid reading and writing.
Red/green – Phil, graph, phone, photo, dolphin
out, now, new
Blue – pin, nap, net, sand, hand
can, we, into
As of next week reading books will be given out on different days. Try to read the book every night and discuss what the story is about. Please ensure reading books and the home learning pack that p2 were given are in their bags everyday as we use them in class and I will be swapping some things in the home learning pack from time to time. Biff will get their new book on Monday, Floppy will get their new book on Tuesday and Kipper will get their new book on Wednesday.
Home learning task – last week we looked at symmetry and used a mirror to make symmetrical pumpkins. Use any resources you have (for example, sticks, stones, building blocks etc) to make symmetrical pictures. Remember for it to be symmetrical it needs to be exactly the same on both sides. Here are some pictures to inspire your creations.

We had a busy week last week with lots of Halloween things happening in the classroom. On Friday it was fantastic to see everyone in their costumes – some people looked very scary!
This week we will be starting to look at Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies.
In numeracy we were practising the bridging strategy last week, and this week we are looking at counting on. A good way of checking that you have mastered a strategy is to teach it to someone else so let’s hope there are a lot of adult volunteers ready to learn.
Keep practising your reading and your spelling words. Here is the link for this week’s
Primary 3 Week beginning 2.11.20
I have also set you some maths homework on Education City. We looked at it in class and you should all have your log ins.
Have a great week,
Mrs McMillan 🙂

Good afternoon P7,
We have got November off to a good start with lots of different activities going on here today. We were lucky to escape the rain this afternoon and spent time outside weeding the raised beds, going on an observation alphabet hunt and getting creative with loose parts.
For maths, we were discussing ‘real-life’ problems where rounding to estimate an answer can be useful. Next time you are shopping, try to keep an estimated running total in your head!
In spelling this week, most groups have a focus on prefixes. We discussed where some of the prefixes in our language originate from… can you remember any examples?
Home Learning Tasks
Please discuss them with someone and try to use them in conversation.
Please log on to our Teams page and find the channel titled ‘Dark Isle’. You will find some questions on the discussion board, please reply to each of them. Remember to answer in sentences and give reasons for your answers.
I’m looking forward to another great week with you all!

Good morning everybody!
What a wet and windy start to the week. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and managed to have some fun on Halloween.
I have been very impressed with the hard working in P4 last week- we did a writing assessment and I really enjoyed reading all your spooky stories! The standard of work was fabulous.
For this weeks home learning tasks I’d like you to give the following a go:
Have a great week P4!

A short blog this week. Your home challenge is to find this blog and add a comment below to let me know you’ve found this post!!
I’d also like you to log onto Education City at home and search for the game “Snakes and Adders”. This is the game that practises adding multiples of 10. We done this in class on Thursday.

Hello primary 2b,
Hope you all had a lovely holiday and got up to lots of nice things. We have been working so hard already since starting the new term. We will be finishing our weather topic this week, looking at the weather in Spain and comparing it to Scotland. I think we will see some big differences in the types of weather. Thank you to everyone who managed to make a rain gauge to measure the rain fall (an optional task from the last post) we talked about this in class and I was very impressed. We have also been working on a very tricky sound this week – ng. Ask us what to tell/show you the sound and action.
Please watch this video of the jolly phonics sounds. Skip to 8:35 to practice our joined phonemes we have been working on sh, ch, th and ng.
red/green groups phoneme words and common words
string strong bring thing bang
Old do going
blue groups phoneme words and common words
song bang ping sing ring
Am me my
Please practice these words and encourage other words that have the “ng” sound. A fantastic one said in class today was “annoying.”
On the last day before the holidays we were doing all sorts of experiments about weather. We tested material to check if they waterproof, we made a rain cloud in a jar to help understand why it rains (ask us why) and we looked at how tornadoes are formed and made them in a bottle. We even tried to make lightning however, the class was too bright to see the lightning as it needs to be very very dark. We tried our best but could not get it dark enough so I promised the class I would put it on here for you to try at home if you want to.
You will need Styrofoam, an aluminium tin, a pencil with a rubber on the end, a pin, a fork and something woollen.
Slowly use your finger or the fork to touch the tin and hopefully you will see some lightning.
We unfortunately couldn’t see it but Miss Baillie did get 2 electric shocks and we heard some crackling when putting the fork on the tin. Hopefully you are able to see it. Good luck. And if you give it a try, make sure you let the class know all about it.
Have a fabulous week,
Miss Baillie

Welcome back P7,
Lovely to see everyone back after the holidays.
We have made a great start to work on significant people in history, beginning this term with John Muir. Try telling someone at home who John Muir is and why he is remembered today.
Home Learning
This week, I would like you to look in the homework folder on www.educationcity.com. You have been assigned three activities to try between today and next Friday (30th). Please let me know if you have any problems.
Keep up the great work,
Mrs J
