Numeracy  – Please select any page from your mental maths booklet.

*In numeracy we are looking at subtraction. We are investigating ways of subtracting large numbers using formulas and simple strategies that do not require us to count very much. Today we realised that lots of our number stories can help us, just like this……..

10 – 7 = 3

100 – 70 = 30

1,000 – 700 = 300

10,000 – 7,000 = 3,000

We also quickly looked at subtracting 9 from numbers. We were sneaky and subtracted 10 then just added 1 more on.

Have a discussion at home about subtraction and see if you can find sneaky ways of subtracting without having to count very much.

Homework – Monday 17th February

We are continuing to work on our solo talks for homework as the children are presenting on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. There is no other literacy or numeracy homework being set, however many of the classes in the school are taking part in an Avatar Design Competition for homework this week. I will send home the competition entry in bags today and ask for it to be returned anytime between now and Friday the 28th February.

*Reminder* This week is Internet Safety Week! We have been discussing ways to stay safe online in class today, please feel free to continue these very important discussions at home tonight and this week.

Make a hole in the top for the ribbon. Leave somewhere warm for a day to harden or bake in the oven at a low temperature of 100 degrees for 2 to 3 hours. Once cooled and hard, paint and add glitter. Thread your ribbon through the hole and hang on your tree or wrap to give as a gift.
