27th September

The children returned on Wednesday all refreshed after their long weekend.

Literacy

We have been writing news with Mrs Baird. With Mr Hay we were focussing on our vocabulary this week – looking at making funny stories.

Numeracy

We continued with shape this week. Some children are looking into the properties of 3D shapes while others look at the properties of 2D shapes. We have been working hard on developing our strategies to complete calculations through the use of Number Talks.

Health and Wellbeing

In P.E, we continued to develop our jumping skills. We have been looking at emotions and this week we made each other kindness notes.

Other Curricular Areas

We have been continuing with our Superhero topic. We also looked at the difference between a star, a planet and a satellite in Science. For RME we had an introduction to Judaism and were looking at the Synagogue.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend. Remember that the children’s solo talks begin on Monday!

Mr Hay & Mrs Baird

Friday 13th September 2019

What a week we have had in P3A!

It was a pleasure to meet all of you on Wednesday afternoon. We both look forward to working with you all this year.

LITERACY

We started working on our new spelling words this week and continued reading Matilda in class. With writing we wrote an imaginative story! Mr Hay was very impressed with our writing skills.

Michelle said “It was really fun when we were writing our stories.”

Taylor said “We wrote these in our new jotters!”

NUMERACY

We continued our work on shape! We rotated around different activities – working on the laptop, with the teacher and on a written piece of work! We were also learning different mental strategies using number talks!

Rachel said “We played shape games on the computer.”

Flo said “We made a grid all about shapes. It had how many faces, vertices and edges the shapes had!”

MUSIC

We continued learning songs from our favourite films. We recorded us singing “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from the Lion King! Don’t we sound good!!!

Numeracy

Today we were looking at estimating, we had great fun estimating quantities of objects. In groups we estimated bags, rulers, pyramids, crayons, pencils, books, duplo and even numbers of children! Have a go at home and see if you can estimate everyday items in the house or out and about locally.

Week Commencing 2nd September

Literacy:

We went to the library and we read in groups with Mrs Baird! We wrote a story with Mr Hay using a process called “Slow Writing.” We marked each others stories.

Lauren said “It was really fun to write!”

Alyia said ” I like marking and looking for the answers because it was like a word search.!

Numeracy

We have been working on rounding to the nearest 1000, 100 and 10.

Zoe said “It’s an easier way to add, when you add in 10s.”

We have also been working on 2D and 3D shape.

Sam said “2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are not. We have been looking for 3D shapes around the classroom!”

Other Areas

In ICT we have helped Mr Hay set up our class blog. We hope you enjoying reading all about what we are getting up to.

Welcome to Primary 3A’s class blog

In Primary 3A we are trying to do all we can everyday to show a kind heart. When you see us why not ask us what we do at home and in class to show our kind hearts.

Share your kind heart with somebody new everyday and spread happiness ♥

Some little hints and tips to help your child be a Superhero when getting dressed in the morning………….

The Tie

Big over little, big round again, big up the chimney, big down the drain, tie it in a knot, push it to the top! Bingo!

The Laces

Insert the end of the lace in to the top hole of the shoe and do the same on the other side. You should now have two loops. Hold the loops up and cross them over, pass the top one over and under, tie, then repeat. Remove the ends from the holes on either side. Easy and in a double knot too! If in doubt then look on you tube for ‘coolest shoe tying trick ever’ here you will meet a little 5 year old boy called Colton who will show you how it is done.
