We have been learning about the different social groups in ancient Egypt from the Pharaoh to the slaves. The class created a social pyramid showing the different groups, an explanation about them and some illustrations.

P3/4 have been learning about the importance of the River Nile to the Ancient Egyptians. They learnt that they used a device called a shaduf to help collect water from the river.
The class worked in groups to design and create their own shaduf.
To celebrate Earth Day, P3/4 spend some time outside. We planted sunflower seeds. We have also been learning about time so we used natural materials to make clocks!
In the afternoon, we switched off the lights and all the electronics. During this time, we discussed how the “earth is in our hands” and we have to look after it. We identified ways we can help look after and protect our planet.
We had great fun this week with lots of different science-related activities! We learned about the lungs and the digestive system through some fun experiments and some members of the Eco committee taught us about climate change. Special thanks to all of our visitors who work in different scientific sectors.

We had lots of fun playing a game learning about apostrophes for contractions. Each learner was given a card and then they had to race around the class to find their “contraction twin” – 1 card had the contraction and 1 card had the full form.
In Numeracy, we have been looking at using the < (less than) and > (greater to) symbols. Ask your child, why we have to think about a hungry crocodile!
Pupils worked in pairs and challenged themselves by using the range of numbers they wanted to work within. They then used the lollipop less than/greater to sticks to complete the statements.
We have been learning about nouns, adjectives and verbs. Ask your child at home if they can explain what these terms mean and can they give examples.
In class, we were given 3 minutes in a team to sort the nouns, adjectives and verbs. Everyone worked hard and lots of good discussion took place.
We then used pictures as stimulus to create our own excellent sentence containing a noun, adjective and verb. Mrs Conetta was extremely impressed!
As part of our Scottish fortnight, P3/4 are learning about different Scottish Inventors. Today we learnt about John Logie Baird who invented the first TV.
After learning about his life and creating a timeline of significant events, we worked in groups to create our own mini TVs!
The results are in! P3/4 have come to the conclusion that plants need both light and water to grow healthily. We examined all the plants and we used our measuring skills to measure the growth of each plant.

We have been learning about the plants in the rainforest and we are carrying out an experiment to investigate what plants need to grow.
We watched a video and then designed an experiment to grow cress in different conditions. Each group had 4 pots to plant and then we will vary the conditions for each pot – sunlight and water, no sunlight and no water, sunlight and no water, and water but no sunlight. We drew a labelled diagram and wrote our own hypothesises.
