EAST staff can deliver Numeracy Interventions to individuals or groups of learners. These interventions make full use of assessment information gathered to ensure the support meets individual needs. The content and resources of sessions vary depending upon individual need but will be underpinned by key principles and follow a specific structure focusing on:
- Forward/ backward number word sequencing
- Numeral work
- Calculations
- Number relationships
- Make use of concrete, pictorial, abstract approach to teach all concepts
- Wait time is encouraged to allow leaners time to process and respond
- Observe how learners tackle questions and fine tune lessons immediately
- Model more sophisticated strategies to extend learning
- Make use of effective questioning to find out how pupils are tackling questions
- Sessions are also planned on a day to day basis ensure that learners are always working within their Zone of Proximal Development
