The P3 Numeracy and Mathematical Screener is used in East Ayrshire as part of monitoring and tracking processes in September of Primary 3.
It provides class teachers with valuable information about key numerical and mathematics concepts which learners are secure with and those areas that may require further development.
The screener is administered as a whole class or in small groups depending upon the needs of learners. It has been split in 2 parts.
PART 1 assesses:
- ordinal numbers
- time
- money
- shape
- fractions
- measure concepts
PART 2 assesses:
- number concepts including numeral identification, recognition, writing, ordering and counting
- place value
- addition/subtraction within 20
Scores for parts 1 and 2 are totaled and compared to the threshold score.
Following the screener additional diagnostic assessments may be carried out with individuals to identify specific areas for development in order to plan effective next steps.
