Motor development is the sequential continuous age-related process whereby movement behaviour changes. The development of children’s movement skills and concepts can be broken down into ages, stages and phases. However, it should be understood that these developments are age related but not age dependent. (Pickup and Price, 2008)
Therefore, in order to plan an effective motor skills development programme for a child we must be able to confidently identify the child’s strengths and development needs. EAST has developed a range of training materials, interventions, checklists and support packs to support the development of gross and fine motor skills.
The Pupil Support Assistant tile also contains resources and there is a targeted intervention (an evolution of the Jump into Movement programme) available from the EAST PSA Coaches.
