The EAST Early/ 1st Level Numeracy Assessments assess knowledge and confidence in the number and number process . They have been developed based on the Diagnostic Interview from New Zealand Maths, Maths Recovery assessments and Highland Council Numeracy Progressions, and adapted to link to Curriculum for Excellence Levels.
They are designed to identify gaps in learning and provide rich information about the strategies and knowledge a learner has through mental maths, written questions, and practical tasks.
The assessment includes and assesses 5 key areas:
- Forward/backwards number word sequences
- Numeral Identification; Recognition
- Writing and Ordering
- Place Value
- Calculations and Number Relationships
The evidence gathered can help tailor approaches and plan an effective intervention to meet individual needs.
