DFS
Third finalist
DFS sunshine!
During community time the DFS group wrote some ‘Upside down poems’ and judged our logo competition. There are 3 finialists, winner to be announced soon! We also celebrated our Bronze award in the sunshine!
Alice
Primary 6 and 7 rehearsing their socks off! Keep up the hard work hard! …We’re all mad here!
National Digital Learning Week
As part of ‘National Digital Learning’ Week Primary 7 have examined Digital Learning and self assessed our ownership of Digital Learning. We have taken part in the Education Scotland, literacy challenge. This involved using digital technology to create Scottish Myth stories. We used Sways, Clicker 7 and PowerPoint as digital platforms.

Alice marketing
Primary 6 and 7 are taking complete ownership of all ‘Alice’ related tasks. Today we looked at promotional work, including ticket design.
Alice art club
Lots of excellent work at the after school art club, in preparation for ‘Alice’. We are looking for principal characters to try and source items for their own costumes, we can help if this is tricky. More to follow…
Termly Update 3
Primary seven are busy working their socks off for their final term at primary. We can’t believe how the time has flown!
Literacy
We will continue to work on active spelling strategies in class, catered to our own ability.
Primary seven will be using our production of Alice as a topic this term covering various areas of the curriculum. We are using two versions of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ movies as a media topic. Working in literature circles the pupils will be taking on specific roles to analyse and compare the themes of the film.
Primary seven will focus on ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ as a homework literacy programme. This is pitched at second and third level and will allow the children to use the resource in the same format they will meet at secondary. The homework will focus on comprehension and essay writing. This will be supported in class.
Maths/ Numeracy
Primary 7 will continue to work on multiplication and division this term with our beyond number focusing on money as well as patterns and relationships. We are concentrating on refining our skills on preparation for secondary.
Health and Wellbeing/ RME
This term Primary seven will look at ‘God’s Loving Plan’. An information leaflet will come out in the coming weeks. For further information please contact the school.
PE
Primary 7 will take a closer look at cricket this term and athletics in preparation for Sports Day. Senior pupils will also help to organise this event.
IDL/ Topic
As previously stated Primary seven will focus on ‘Alice in Wonderland’ this will link to all areas of expressive arts and will encompass aspects of our technology outcomes.
Curriculum Overview
Welcome back! We are ready to make the most of our final terms at primary.
This term we will be working on:
Literacy
Pupils will be working on Bug Club texts within their own level and accessing the online resource to enhance their learning. We will focus on visualisation and metalinguistics . We will use our prior knowledge to inform predictions and will begin to look at Close Reading tasks to prepare us for the work we will be doing at our chosen Academy.
We will continue to look at newspaper articles and persuasive writing pieces relating to our class topics. This will form the basis of our talking and listening debating topic.
We are continuing to use our active approaches to spelling and transferring these skills into our everyday tasks.
Throughout January we will focus on Scots language through various tasks.
Numeracy and Maths
We will continue to work on addition and subtraction of large quantities using place value to aid our progress, we will move on to multiplication and division next so start working on those tables!
We will look at symmetry, angles and compass points in our beyond number moving onto measure nearer Easter.
HWB
Across the aspects of Health and Wellbeing we will study substance misuse, looking at choices that we as young people will make as we grow older. We will move towards our ‘God’s Loving Plan’ programme of work towards the end of this term, exploring puberty and relationships.
We are loving our swimming block and will continue this for another 4 weeks, get practising outwith school to help enhance these skills! (Family swim on a Sunday at various leisure centres)
We are working on ball skills during our second PE slot, Football, Volleyball and basketball.
Lockerbie is imminent!! More info to follow.
IDL
Our IDL topic this term is ‘Highland Clearances’ where we are working in teams to research and present on one key part of this era. We are sharing our learning with our classmates and building a greater understanding across the timeline. We are completing art, and literacy tasks in relation to this topic.
We will then take a closer look at the modern studies topic of ‘British Politics’ we will explore ‘Brexit’ and Scotland’s place in this, we will look at devolved powers and work with guest speakers.
Expressive Arts
Art work will link to RE and Topic.
Music will focus on our programme of study ‘Charanga’ we will listen and evaluate various genres of music and will create our own pieces.
RE
We are continuing to work our way through our Pope Francis Faith Award. We will be revisiting 100 years of Catholic Education and taking part in various Lent activities for SCIAF.

November already! Primary Seven are working hard and making great progress in all areas.
Literacy
Pupils will be working on Bug Club texts within their own level and accessing the online resource to enhance their learning. We will focus on summarising and predicting and justifying our views and responses.
As part of our upcoming Highland Clearance topic, we will look at persuasive writing and newspaper articles. We will be using our knowledge of the topic to plan and detail extended pieces.
We are continuing to use our active approaches to spelling and transferring these skills into our everyday tasks.
Talking and listening will be covered through our topic work using persuasive language and debating.
Numeracy
Primary Seven are finishing our percentages topic moving towards place value, deepening our understanding of column and quantity value this will lead into our addition topic.
We will finish our shape topic and look at measure estimating, justifying and carrying out practical investigations.
Health and Wellbeing
As our Wonder topic draws to a close we will look at decision making and how the choices we make impact on ourselves and others. We will cover playground behaviour, peer pressure and phone safety.
In PE we will cover gymnastics and social dance, preparing for the Christmas party season!
Religious Education.
Whilst learning about Christmas we will explore the different characters within the nativity, focusing on their individual viewpoints.
We will also continue on our Pope Francis Faith Award exploring Fortitude and Understanding.
Expressive Arts
We will use our topic of Highland Clearances as a focus for our drama this term.
We have been taking part in a workshop programme with the help of the Dean Park looking at historical instruments and designing our own.
The children will complete a home task this term focusing on creating a croft using their knowledge of this era.
We will create a class frieze to celebrate Christmas.
We will make another visit to St Joseph’s this term familiarising ourselves with our new friends and future learning environment.
