Voting Opens!

Primary 6/7 have been learning all about the government and what is involved in a political campaign. Today, each party had to write a short persuasive speech convincing the class to vote for them. Each pupil then went into the polling station and voted for the party they thought would be best.

Week beginning 30/1/2023

Hayden and Abigail

Today we made sugar crystals! Here is how you make them;

Step 1. You get boiling water and then you pour it into a bowl,

Step 2. Then you have to get 3 full cups of sugar and pour in into the bowl. (stir)

Step 3. Get a different cup and pour it in with or without a funnel.

Step 4. Tie a piece of string and tie it to a pencil or a stick and put a paper clip on the bottom of the string.

Step 5. Place your pencil into the water and get something to push it down (if it floats up).

Step 6. Wait for around a couple of days or weeks!

You are now done! Happy science!

Layla and Kaitlyn

On Tuesday morning, Kilmarnock football came in and took primary 6/7’S PE slot. This week we started shooting into the goals. Before any shooting games, we warmed up by playing never ending tag and hospital tag. Never ending tag is played by tagging someone and playing rock paper scissors then if you lose you sit down until the person that you lost to is defeated. Hospital tag is quite simple. If the catcher tigs you, you lose a limb and then, if you are tagged 4 times, you are out (each time losing another). We then played a game where you have to dribble through the cones pass to the person at the white cone then they pass back and you shoot into the goal.

Following after, the haggis was brought through the hall behind the Piper.

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

In class, Primary 6/7 have been doing fractions & percentages in maths.

The Circles and Triangles have been doing the Heinmann 8 textbook page 120. They have been working on percentages that are not friendly numbers E.G 27% instead of 20%. The Squares, meanwhile, were simplifying fractions.

Science

Today(Friday), in science, we were learning how to separate mixtures. First, we done salt and rice. We used a sieve to split the rice and the salt. The next mixture we had to separate was oil and water. To get the water and oil in different bowls, we slowly poured out the oil (decanting). Then we had to separate sand and water. We used filter paper and a funnel and we slowly decanted the water into the filter paper. The filter paper caught the sand and separated it from the water.
