Threading

Threading is a great activity to encourage development of children’s fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.
This activity can be done using almost anything you may have in the house, such as ribbons or shoe laces. In the pictures below the children are using different things they have found in the garden, to create there designs.

Talking about feelings using story books

It’s always great to have a nice quiet time and unwind with a good story…

As you are reading, you could talk about how the characters are feeling. Why would they feel like that?

Use words to describe the characters moods and emotions. Are they scared, angry, excited, happy? What would help?

You could share a time when you felt those emotions. What makes you feel angry/excited? What could you do to help someone? How would that make them/you feel?

Outdoor Learning – Nature Art Frames

Nature Art Frames

Nature art frames are really simple to make, fun to play with and create some wonderful images.

All you need is an old piece of cardboard or paper, a pen and some scissors.

Then all you do is draw a shape or picture and cut it out.

When you have cut out your shape or picture take the frame outdoors and hold it against anything of the interesting natural things you can see, like the sky, trees, flowers or grass for example.

The picture you see or create with the frames changes as you move the frame about.

Have fun!

Find the sound

This week we are learning to listen.

Play this game with someone in your house or several people can make it easier, what you need:

  • A musical instrument
  • or something that makes a noise, e.g. party blower, whistle, pot and spoon, squeeky toy, bell.

Listen to the noise together, now take turns.  One person hides their eyes, the other person moves around the room and makes the noise using the object , the person hiding their eyes has to guess where they heard the sound and point while keeping their eyes closed.  Now swap roles.  If you have several people taking part, one person hides and others take turns to make the noise.  Rememeber, NO PEEKING!!

Problem solving

Block play is a great way for children to learn some problem solving skills. Through trial and error they will learn how to build, how to ensure their construction is stable etc.
This activity doesn’t need to use toy bricks, you can use cardboard boxes, or anything you can build with, Get creative and have some fun, count how many items they have used, measure the buildings are they taller or smaller than the child.
