Maths and numeracy (patterns)

Hi boys and girls, hope you are all well. It’s Monday again.
This week I am going to be posting some activities about patterns, we can find patterns all around us. I have patterned paper on my wall for instance.
I wonder if you can find some patterns in your house or garden.
Here are a couple of different patterns to get you started.

If you haven’t already could I please ask that you send in your 6-10 recording of your child waving, dancing or doing some sort of act for our video.  We are still waiting on lots and don’t want anyone to miss out on this lovely nursery memory.

Thank you

Getting Ready for P1

Supporting your child’s independence with solving simple problems

Encourage your child to resolve problems by talking when they don’t understand or something isn’t going well.

Create simple patterns and ask your child to continue this on or draw a pattern.  Try using different materials for drawing such as pencils, pens, paint or chunky chalk outdoors.

Encourage your child to compare sizes/weights.  What can you do to make both sides weigh the same? You can add this experience into snack preparation or even bake a cake together.

Support the development of fine motor skills to support early writing techniques.  This is all about using pincer grip through activities such as threading, manipulating playdough, Hammering golf tee’s or nails into playdough/boxes/wood

It is important that children also learn when to ask an adult for help.
