Maths and numeracy

This activity is about matching the correct amount of objects to the correct number.

You can use any small objects, in the picture above we they are using cereal, but you could use stones or leaves or anything you have.

Write the numbers for your child, now you can use a plain piece of paper it doesn’t have to be cup cases, then get your child to count out the correct amount and match them to the correct number.
Have a great weekend everyone, missing you all.

Building fine motor skills – hand and finger exercises!

Using and strengthening fine motor skills will help to develop pencil control, handwriting, use scissors/tools, and independence skills, e.g doing up zips/buttons.

Play ideas;

Cut cooked spaghetti into lots of pieces.

Thread the uncooked pasta, e.g penne on a straw.

Trace around your hand with a pencil.

Thread pipe cleaners/uncooked spaghetti through a kitchen colander, or kitchen/toilet roll holder (with holes cut into the cardboard).

Peg clothes on a line.

Squeeze play dough, roll with a rolling pin, press cookie cutters into dough.

Stick uncooked spaghetti into the dough (standing up), and use it to stack buttons/cheerios.

Use tongs to pick up and transfer small objects, e.g small pom poms, to e.g other trays.

Can you draw a picture of your favourite thing to do during the daytime or night time.

  • What is happening in your picture?
  • How do you know it is day time, is the sun out or clouds?
  • What about night time, can you see the moon or stars, what colour is the sky?
  • Tell someone about your picture you have made.

Take a photo of your picture and sent it for our blog!

Matching sounds.

Hi Everyone.

todays activity is to use your building blocks and try to match the sounds and maybe even find the sounds/letters in your own name!

you will need someone to help in your household.
All you need is bricks and a pen.

Try chatting about other items in the house beginning with the sounds you know :).

Maths/ numeracy

Another good way for children to learn counting is to encourage them to count while doing something else, such as get your child to jump and count how many jumps.

A good game for this is hop scotch. Using some chalk draw a hopscotch on the ground, and write the numbers in the boxes.

This can also be used to encourage the children to recognise the different numbers.

Outdoor Learning – Symmetrical Butterfly Wings

Symmetrical Butterfly Wings

You will need

Natural materials (or chalk)
String, wool or skilling rope

Instructions

Encourage your child to collect natural materials such as petals, stones, grass, twigs, leaves etc.
Ask your child to lie down on the ground.
Create butterfly wings using your chosen string, wool, rope, trying to make them as symmetrical as you can (you can also do this free hand and not around your child’s body).
Your child can then create symmetrical patterns on the wings.
Ask your child to lay back down on the ground and take a photograph of them with their wings.

Send us a phot of your butterfly wings. We would love to see them.
