In the picture below they are sorting buttons into different jars by the size. You can do this activity with anything from stones to leaves etc.
if using buttons or other colourful items this will also provide opportunities to talk about the colours as well as the different sizes. You could also encourage the children to count the buttons in each jar when complete.
