Building fine motor skills – hand and finger exercises!

| 0 comments

Using and strengthening fine motor skills will help to develop pencil control, handwriting, use scissors/tools, and independence skills, e.g doing up zips/buttons.

Play ideas;

Cut cooked spaghetti into lots of pieces.

Thread the uncooked pasta, e.g penne on a straw.

Trace around your hand with a pencil.

Thread pipe cleaners/uncooked spaghetti through a kitchen colander, or kitchen/toilet roll holder (with holes cut into the cardboard).

Peg clothes on a line.

Squeeze play dough, roll with a rolling pin, press cookie cutters into dough.

Stick uncooked spaghetti into the dough (standing up), and use it to stack buttons/cheerios.

Use tongs to pick up and transfer small objects, e.g small pom poms, to e.g other trays.
